The weather!

Went outside early this morning and it was fresh and beautiful, but within 2-3 minutes the air went smokey. It’s pretty grim now - very acrid and hazy. I had to pop into the city and it’s everywhere; like living nextdoor to a permament bonfire. Can’t imagine what it’s like for the poor people living closer.

Popped into the supermarket and got speaking to a lady I let past me at the till, and she wouldn’t have it that the smoke was blowing over from Bordeaux area, as we’re much further inland!

I have been wondering how you all are and hoping all is well.

It is very dry here, tiny amount of rain.

I have stopped my injections as they were making life too miserable. It has taken another month to get it all out of my system.

The family are coming at the beginning of August, but it will be superior for them.

Yes, pleased to see you Jane, and posting again.

Just brightening up now but we had had light rain for a while. The mist stayed thick on the valley but my nose did not detect smoke.

Looking at Rain Radar - storms all round us! Supposed to be raining right now. But it’s not. I’ve hung out some washing. Perhaps that will encourage the rain.

Merci monsieur…

It has been raining all afternoon here and with my new knowledge of Geosmin, I’m going out to hunt….

….more rain……for everyone..

@Jane_Williamson and we were wondering about you too Jane. Glad to hear things are settling down after those injections. You take care of yourself young lady - that’s an order! :pink_heart:

Good to see you back again Jane.

I didn’t know until now that we had such a good sense of smell - “humans can detect geosmin better than sharks can smell blood!” Good hunting…

I’m adding that to my list of amazingly evocative words like komorebi, brilliant.

Thunderstorms and periods of torrential rain here.

Not sure that bicycles and alcohol mix very well…

Glad to hear that rain is falling for some of you though. Nothing here in my bit of Surrey for another week probably.

PS: hello @Jane_Williamson !!

How about Petrichor?

I don’t want to know that!

I wish the meteo wouldn’t promise me rain and then nothing. They were even showing it raining at the time I was checking and not even a drop.

So pleased to see you back Jane. Sorry you’ve been so unwell.

So frustrating!

We got 3.5mm, much less then I’d have liked but dropped the temps to 20c and the smell was incredible :pink_heart::pink_heart:

We had a light drizzle around 7am this morning: enough to wet the leaves but the soil beneath remains dry. Now the sun is strong and humidity climbing. :face_with_tongue:

Nothing of the wet sort still down here and now it’s blowing a strong tramontine out there elevating the fire risk to red again. Just wish we could have a couple of hours of a deluge to dampen everything down but no serious flooding.

Ah well they are cunning like that - somewhere on the forecast is a percentage rating - for example this morning at 10am it says rain, but only a 30% chance, which really means a 70% chance of it not raining at all.

Smoke haze and smell everywhere again this morning. Mind you, it’s an ill wind … the temperature is a pleasant 22 degrees and I managed to get some serious watering and gardening done early.
