The body’s response to overheating is to sweat. Or worse! The body’s response to being too cold is to shiver. Or worse! But I can’t recall ever, shivering, but of late, getting really hot, bothered and worried during extreme hot weather really bothers me. I’d rather cope with the cold than cope with the heat. Heat is worse health wise for the elderly I’d hazard a guess. So, roll on winter. Extra blankets, more woollies and eat well.

Where I live the sound of helicopters is rare but just now, unusually, I could hear one or more of them flying by, or circulating. I’m 118 kms north of Bordeaux so it seems plausible that signs of any new fires bordering Charente Maritime are being sought by firefighters and their lookouts. But we are separated from the Bordeaux area by the rivers Gironde & Dordogne, and no smell of burning locally.
I imagine aircraft are on the lookout all the time at present in many departments.
We had a bit of a shock the other week when, in the middle of the night, a helicopter was hovering literally metres from our bedroom window. Turned out to be the air ambulance from Poitiers which was landing on the football field just over the back of the house. We jumped out of our skins when woken by the noise.
So much effort saving people’s lives - always amazes me, be it crews, paramedic or fire fighter.
I’ve been told that there is an extensive fire monitoring network here in the Montagne Noire. Not sure what that is exactly but I assume it must be some sort of autonomous network of sensors.
There was a bit on the news the other night about cameras linked to a system using AI to identify fires. It all looked very clever.

I wasn’t thinking right. Planes and helicopters are old technologies. It’s satellites & AI now.
Any one noticed how orange looking the moon is tonight? Low in the sky - this view from Charente Maritime. Apparently there’s a moon eclipse afoot soon.
Best I could do - am not used to astronomy photography.

Eclipse of the Sun rather than the Moon, but yes it’s on August 12th - total eclipse in northern Spain (and Greenland) and partial in western Europe.

It should be well worth seeing if it’s clear, but do take the advice given in that thread about proper eye protection.
Our pharmacy has eclipse glasses for sale on the counter for a small price , maybe €2

Expected max temp today, my way, is 37°C but tomorrow it is predicted to drop 10°C and level off over the next seven days to 33°C down to 27°C. Nighttime temps well down thankfully. I get the feeling that overall there is a downward trend.

After weeks of clear skies I’m betting it will be cloudy come the day.
We had our 2 cloudy days over the weekend when I could have got stuck in on building my new shed, but the very first item, one of the base spars, was missing so all I could do was give it the first of 3 coats of paint. So disillusioned was I that I haven’t given it the 2nd one yet.
And today is cloudless again.
