The first time our previous dog, a long haired Maltese terrier from Pretoria, encountered snow outside our front door in Cumbria, she charged around in it for a couple minutes then stopped, literally frozen to the spot. Had to be picked up and the underside de-iced.
Remarkably for a collie x labrit he took 4 steps, and turned round and charged back indoors. And refuses to go back out. It’s hard to believe but maybe snow is new for him.
Bedtime pee is going to be a battle.
It is winter! Here in south Manche, we briefly had thunder snow, intense enough to trip the power twice.
My Shiba Inu used to adore any snow we ever got which in his life was only once that actually covered the ground. It was in his breed coming from the northern island of Japan and being a primitive race so it obviously stirred his genes. Getting him back indoors from the garden was a major operation when he discovered this white stuff. I miss him so much but we had 13.5 years together from birth.
My cats were very snooty, would beg to be let out and then spend ten mins sticking a paw out and testing the white stuff meanwhile letting the heat out and then decide going back to bed was a better plan. The litter trays got a good bashing over those few days from four cats.
Son just phoned to check in on me as he does every day and said they had over half a metre of snow fall since yesterday evening up at Les Angles so the kids were making the most of it sledging and the adults skiing. He said the wind was also very rough up there as it is here still at present but blue skies and sunshine all round.
Very pleased for you, nice to have family within easy each.
Big jack frost here this morning! First proper one I’ve seen this winter, although from the plants I guess there was one while we were away!
Light smattering of snow here this morning.
We’ve had some very cold nights and hard frosts here in Sud-Angleterre for the last week or so - and “oop North” it’s been much colder and disruption with snow - you came back to France just in time!
I’ve got fingers crossed the pipes in the roof haven’t frozen and we don’t have a flood to deal with when the weather warms up. We had that happen twice in past years (just small cracks in a pipe but water came down through the ceiling and made a mess).
Two years ago our next door neighbours (who have the exact same 1970s bungalow) had a major flood while they were away in Austria over Xmas, and had to move out for 18 months while the house was virtually rebuilt!
I would like to make one thing clear (ok mybe two things)
Ice and Snow can stay where they are right now and NOT come any closer to where I live…
The freezing fog/rain of previous days has finally gone elsewhere and the sun is trying its best to warm the air… hurrah.
It was 20°C here again friday afternoon but then the tramontine got up yesterday and brought colder air down from the mountains but its still blue and sunny and no rain forecast for over a week to come.
Leaving our village for our cérémonie de voeux on this exceptionally cold morning , I felt the car twitch slightly on a small patch of ice on our side of the Lot (normally only found on the south bank, which is in the shade throughout the winter).
Upon returning saw a lady had also found the ice, but had probably been entering the village at too high a speed and the front of her car was now wedged in railings that had stopped her ending up in the Lot. Good to know they’re effective.
We left home this morning in 0.0’C and the countryside a beautiful sparkling white, and returned at 1pm with +2.0’C and everything green/brown and dull. Meh.
I’m guessing she’s not happy with her Lot…
(I’ll get me coat)
You’ll need it!
She might even be railing at it.
