The weather!

If your A/C uses a heat pump that has a dehumidifier mode, you might find that the latter cools the room without making it icy cold. I find it less intrusive then A/C and probably uses less electricity.

Don’t be :sob: everyone else has blue flowers, you must be special having the white flowers.

I don’t like it! I’m pleased we are heading for the UK next Tuesday to get some relief!!!

Just went to get Louis from work. Hubby currently working on the aircon so there is a thermometer in the car. This is what it said when I got in!!!

Yes my car read 48°C the other day when I turned the engine on and the temp was on the screen but it soon went down once the air con was working. I replaced the three year old system that was put in the house when it was built and which turned out to be inferior and faulty to say the least. The new system runs 24/7 as it should and turns off/down if spike in temperature, very pleased with it and its manufactured down here in the south too so supporting French industry. The gas used now is different too and more economical hence why you leave it running, same in winter for warmth.

Could I ask what brand of air con unit you bought, please? I think ours is a Mitsubishi and IMO it doesn’t work all that well. I think we could do better.

We had a similar issue with out Hitachi clim. Did it work well originally ? We had a very slow leak of refrigerant which slowly reduced it’s effectiveness. The installer fixed the leak and topped up the refrigerant and now it’s fine.

I suppose it was better at the beginning, which is about 10 years ago. We also had a gas leak that the service engineer didn’t find, but that seems to have gone away somehow.

I asked a service man where the escaped gas went to and he laughed at me, so I still don’t understand.

To do battle with the ozone layer:wink:

Currently strimming in the cooler morning here in SE 47.

I actually wore warm jogging bottoms and a thick, warm shirt to go shopping at 9am this morning.. other folk were also warmly clad.

Saw some daft Brit wearing shorts and sleeveless T-shirt… he stood out like a sore thumb. Nationality confirmed when he loaded his UK regn car

It’s the same here, Stella. The locals are covered up, long sleeved tops and jeans and you can spot the grockles a mile off because they’re dressed for the beach. It’s not all Brits to be fair, French people from a lot further north seem to be pretty resilient in colder weather.

Very true.

There is a French chap from Brittany with a 2nd home nearby. The first time I challenged him for wearing such flimsy clothing when it was “almost freezing” he chuckled and firmly told me that the Bretons are a hardy race…

This is starting to sound like Novocastrian anecdotes.

If you had a gas leak, then it’s possible you need a top-up. If this wasn’t done at the time the leak was found then it’s no surprise it doesn’t work well. Our installer measured the air output temperature when it was on normal cool and it was 20 C. He said it should be around 13-14 C. He topped it up and measured again and it was 14 C.

I had to Google this…

Try using the dehumidifier option instead of AC, we find that’s usually sufficient if the temp’s below the high 30s and it makes the room cool rather than chilly.

Thank you. We did have the gas topped up but I’m wondering if it’s run down again.

We always knew the holidaymakers in Brittany, they were almost naked and the only ones trying to sunbathe compulsory on the beach in a gale whilst we were wrapped up like mummies and stayed at home or at least away from any sand.
