The worst thing about having pets

The livingroom of my house in S Africa had picture windows or big patio doors on three sides while the large garden was full of trees and birds including a big Cape Weaver colony of several dozen of their amazing nests. Consequently birds were always flying into the windows usually with unfortunate results, but one such accident was particularly sad for the following reason - there was a record of the impact, but I was unable to reproduce it. On the glass of the patio door was a perfect print of every feather in the bird’s outspread wings, but the image was so subtle, it couldn’t be photographed successfully. Perhaps twenty-five years on recording it might be easier, avoiding dismantling the door, cutting out a section of the window and putting it on a lightbox or in a scanner.

Although now perhaps @captainendeavour will post something along the lines of , ā€˜Ah you should have done such and such…’

Oblique lighting, polarising filter…

Thanks, unfortunately I sold the house, including the patio door twenty years ago. It was an exquisite subtle image, but I imagine the window has since been cleaned.

But they would probably deter the birds from visiting the bird bar 2 metres in front of them, especially as it was explained to me that the best deterrent would be birds of prey. :slightly_frowning_face:
But also would spoil our view of the bar and also the wildlife attracted to the pond just beyond.

All our hits have been in the top half of the windows and I avoided strikes for many years by cleaning the bottom half and doing the top less often and less vigorously. The strikes re-started after the cleaner employed as part of my wife’s aides insisted on doing a fine job all over.

We have come to an agreement, she does them less often now. :joy:
