Indeed I was. Like you I buy whenever shopping to keep a stock for my wife. I never take either. What confused me was the need for pharmacist approval. On revisiting I see that it refers to multi packs of 32 x500 mg paracetamol which exceeds the 2 x 16 limit for over the counter purchases. My local Aldi restricts paracetamol and ibuprofen to two 2 x 16 packets of either but not both which other Aldi and Lidl shops will allow.
Asda pharmacies (any pharmacy really, but Asda are cheapest I think) will sell you larger boxes of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol without issue. The pharmacist does ask you what they are for and if youāve used them before and may remind you of dosing, but they wonāt refuse if you answer appropriately.
Consider it as a free trip!
Does anyone take the pneumonia vaccine. My OH had it very badly this year and doesnāt want it again. I know in the UK itās recommended for anyone over 65
Yes, I have had it as I am asthmatic.
Pneumococcal vaccine, not just pneumonia but also helps with sepsis and meningitis.
I have it every 10 years.
Me too.
Three years ago my BIL who in the past has had Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and got through it via the new back then, stem cell implants, had the pneumonia jab on the insistance of his doctor in the UK and she also said to have the flu jab at the same time which he did! Next day he passed out at the wheel of his 40 tonner on a scottish motorway but luckily did not hit anything, only a barrier and light damage. It was found to have been caused by having both jabs the same morning which inturn made his heart change to irregular beats. He was taken off driving for over a year, fitted with a pacemaker and has been cleared for driving again now for over 18 months without a single problem. The doctor apparently should never have ordered both jabs on the same morning!
I had both jabs at the same time last year with no effect. Iād say you BILās arrhythmia (which I also have, so my MTās aware of it) could have kicked off at any stage.
Thank you for that info. It was a Tesco pharmacy shop where I saw the bulk packs. From my visits I think all the major UK supermarkets are selling these products at the same price to compete with Aldi/Lidl.
Thanks for that useful information which will help us with our doctor as he speaks very little English. Having read up on it on the NHS site it seems the vaccine gives a 60% to 70% protection against bacterial pneumonia not the viral which is what my OH had. The NHS is still suggesting it can be taken with the flu jab but we will make sure we avoid that. No point in taking unnecessary risks!
Iām also skipping the jabs this yearāI just donāt see the point for now. We have plenty of medications at home to cover all the basic illnesses, so I feel pretty prepared. Plus, Iāve saved the hims email, the pharmacy that delivers everything I need straight to my door. Itās super convenient, and having that option makes it easy to restock on essentials without even leaving the house. With everything I have on hand and easy access to reliable deliveries, I feel like Iām in good shape to handle whatever comes my way this season
We are going tomorrow.
Necessary for me as I have compromised lungs.
Interestingly, we were at our hairdressers this morning and she told us that she has a friend who works at a funeral directors in Macon and Covid is seeing off vulnerable old folk, so I shall be taking extra precautions.
Personal choice, but doesnāt help the overall community as need the majority vaccinated to stop the spread.
Letās hope you donāt get Covid and pass it on to someone more vulnerableā¦
No, none of this family are having them again either nor my family in the UK either any more after the last lot made us ill. Will get the flu one though as the little ones bring home those germs.
Even the manufactures said it doesnt when questioned? Surely a myth propagated by civil servants on telly.
You still get covid jabbed or not.
This has been done to death. Pun intendedā¦
Well Iāll take anything thatās offered so, on appointment, I turned up that nursesā surgery in the cabinet this morning. She saw me on time, did all the paperwork but was then delayed by 2 lengthy incomng phone calls (funny, whenever I call it goes straight to voice mail ) and eventually injected both arms. More form filling and a demand for ā¬7.56. Card? No, only cash or cheque. I didnāt have the right money so she said I have change in the car, then, oh no, the car isnāt here (she is married to the doctor (who does accept cards) and he was off on his rounds with it. In the end she said next time you come bring the right money and hand it to the secretary. OK.
Then to the coffee shop where we all had a good laugh after the initial astonishment. One of our number turned out his wallet and produced cash for my tenner. The proprietor changed my large denomination metal with a load of one cent coins. I was not exactly pleased with this as I hate all those little brown things and, not for the first time, wished I lived in Holland where they no longer use them I believe. Nevertheless we, between all of us, managed to isolate exactly ā¬7.56. Then I had to pay for my coffee, ā¬1.20, and, guess what? I managed to get rid of all those horrible little brown things.
It was 12.10 and the cabinet closes at 12.30, so it was straight in the car, back round the block and I pulled up just outside the door. As I got out, 2 women tried the door, and it was locked, at 12.16
But one of the 2 women was the nurse. and I was able to pour all my coins into her cupped hands.
If I get covid or grippe after all this I will not be best well pleased.
