Are you with Barclays? They have a pretty poor record where this is concerned. As discussed elsewhere, opening a new bank a/c in the UK from France is not easy but some members here have had success with HSBC. As I said above, I do recommend if at all possible you keep a UK a/c, even if you only keep small amounts in it.
@SuePJ I am trying this too but its not happening quickly enough so planning a plan b.
Good luck! Et bon courage. ![]()
@SuePJ merci. Its so stressful and frustrating.
By the way, I’m someone else who is a fan of Wise - I’ve used them for years. I have a couple of pensions paid into my HSBC a/c in the UK and from time to time (sometimes 2-3 times a month) I use Wise to transfer funds into my Credit Ag a/c here in France.
Yes, you could always give them a heads up, preferably to your local bank advisor (assuming that you have one).
CA Britlne for example advised they have an informal threshold of 80000€ before they want to know more about a transfer. Interesting how that’s reconciled with the useful link listed by Rice Pudding on TRACFIN reporting thresholds…I second the advice about letting your bank manager know about a significant transfer, relative to routine transfers.
I have only been asked once to explain a transfer and that was when the transferred money entered my account and was spent straight away. They asked to know what the money was for. I replied with a photo of the car that I had bought and received a one word reply, Enjoy. Since then I have transferred far more without comment. The last time however they did invite me in to discuss how I wanted to place the money.
We’ve generally used Lumon for transfers - not the very best rates, but generally pretty good and always quick & trouble free. IIRC SF has a relationship with them, and there may be a link that helps support the site if you use them.
From @cat 's post earlier " if you are transferring money, please do use our trusted partner Lumon - the links at the top of the page or you can click here and help keep me in mince pies
"
I thought she sang, “It’s a mifftery.”
This thread is making as much sense as a previous one that we had on AdBlue… ![]()
I have transcribed her lyrics for the hard of hearing. ![]()
Bonjour SuePJ, A good bank account in each country you live in or have long term ties in would be a sensible idea. Always think about the ‘what if’ - don’t wish later that you hadn’t closed it. I was a week out of keeping my Swiss Bank account and lost it with news rules and a delay in the postal system notifying me in Australia of my account closure. Regretable Life’s circumstances change and sometimes with surprises. If a bank account is not charging high fees to keep it, much harder now to re-open a bank account. I would keep it active. ![]()
No, she said mithtery. And thtill does apparently. ![]()
Sorry, your reply is not aimed at me. You are preaching to the converted. See my post higher up.
Also bite for wise and find them the cheapest. The OP is not making a deposit just remitting funds so the risk is almost non existent. I’ve used them for well over£100k without a problem but only keep a few hundred on deposit for small card payments.
If you have a French Revolut account, you also have a UK sort code and account number. You can pay the money from your UK bank in sterling to this sirt code/account. No charges. You can then transfer it to your French Revolut account at about 0.5% less than central rate - an excellent rate you won’t find with normal banks.
Don’t transfer at the weekend - Revolut charges extra fees then.

Depends on your type of Revolut account . I get free and unlimited weekend transfers.
I too am a fan of Wise. I have used them for years with not a single problem. The only time I would not use them is for a very large transfer, say buying a property in France. I would not touch Revolut with a barge pole. They have a very poor reputation in the UK for poor security and failing to reimburse when something is patently their fault when money goes missing. The FCA has been very critical.
Torfx for sure. Excellent service, very quick transfers. Call them and talk to them, you get human beings, not just online stuff
