Transferring home ownership

My wife and I own our house in France jointly under a standard contract. She wishes to transfer ownership of her share to me, with no money changing hands.

Does anyone know what the cost is likely to be? Will it be like removing a spouse from a CT ie treated and taxed as a new transaction? Or is there an easy and inexpensive solution?

We plan to ask our Notaire but the earliest appointment he can offer is nearly a month away and it would be good to have some idea before that.

Thanks in advance for keeping this on track and not deviating into areas such as inheritance!

I’m very curious to know what costs might be involved too.

Contrary to this…

…my reason is very much to do with inheritance

As I understand it you can give up to €80k house value without paying tax on the gift.

But it is a immobilier transaction so you will pay 2.5% of the value, plus fees and charges, for the privilege.

Thank you, @JaneJones . You’ve posted a very useful link that I failed to find with my searches :slightly_smiling_face:
