Does anybody know if you an bring plants into France.? I have heard that you can …that you cannot… That you can if they are with your removal company but not in your car…ah…that you run the risk of them beings matched at the ferry port… I love my herbs and certain plants so really want to ring the with me.
Yes both … -)
Ideally both ;-)
Large plants in pots or large pot plants? Hmmm. English can be so ambiguous.
blackthorn and all the thorn trees are excellent for log fires burn well, give off good heat and are nearly smokless.
It is lovely for all of that and nesting birds galore. Just wanted to put you on the alert before it got the better of you.
Thanks Brian - I didn't know that about blackthorn. We intend to keep the hedge quite low and tidy I imagine like a privet hedge as we don't want to spoil the view. So hopefully we shouldn't have too much of a problem with the hedge spreading.
Careful with blackthorn though. We have literally hundreds of them at the bottom of our field, yes I do make sloe gin as well. However, they spread like wildfire in no time. We had one area cut down, had the area ploughed to remove the roots which sprout and give you several plants, now two years later we have a virtual forest of a couple of hundred of them back there, all of them already about a metre tall. They may have sprouted from roots left behind rather than the sloes, but whatever the case just be careful with them.
There is an up side though. At present the flowers are just about starting to fade but they have been spectacular and with a bit of luck after the first autumn frost I should be in for several more bottles.
Love sloe gin which we've been making for years, and why we wanted blackthorn in the hedge. It was a bonus when we heard about the blackthorn as we just increased the blackthorn element accordingly.
Yes bit confusing at times - well blackthorn probably more useful to you - especially if you like gin!
as i understand UK/France customs you can take anything out of the UK, it is just the reentering UK that gets complicated.
Interestingly, we purchased online from a UK company, a load of hedging plants for one of our fence lines as we wanted a more natural, wild life friendly boundary. We bought blackthorn, dog rose, wild cherry, hazel and field maple. We initially ordered hawthorne, but were told that these could not be imported to France. Would be interested to know why blackthorn was allowed but hawthorn not.
Good to know Carolyn as I have started buying more -). noticed that plants are pretty expensive in France and where I have bought has horses, goats, geese, hens and a donkey on the land So think going to be doing a lot of planting -))
I brought a car full of large pot plants when I cam over and no one even glanced at them.
Love Tickling as long as I'm the tickler & not the ticklee :-0
Well you have to talk to them vic and tickle a leaf now and then - usually keeps them perky -))
Yeah but do they love you back? No matter how much affection I show 'em my pot plants usually show their distain by dying on me. :-)
Rah! Looks like you'll be allright then :)
Thanks David - pretty much supports what Brian’s saying
Thanks Brian round and heavy…mine are common plants but I love 'em.
