Travelling with my son, French ID card

Im booked to travel back to blighty with my son (he's 3 and a half) in couple of weeks and I have just noticed that his ID card shows him a a big baby!

His mother is not travelling with us. He has travelled on this ID card many times, but I hardly recognise him!

Do you think I may experience problems? Should I get the Livret de famille from my sons mother.

Trying not to panic!!

hello, Debra in particular. How did your kids change their legal name, as used on the passport to their Father's? I am interested because although my son has a british passport his birth certificate is French and his mother double-barreled his surname without my consent, but after I had signed the papers for the agreed name. His double name is ridiculously long and he hates it, especially as the French have an inability to respect his wishes. Next time we renew his British Passport, we wish to simplify his life a little. Thanks.

Don't panic Pike!! Thanks Tracy, I've asked her for the livret de famile, lets hope she 'lets' me have it!

well, it is official, there IS panic in this blog posting!

I suggest you relax and bear in mind, when is your leaving date for blighty? Passport delays etc

I would get the livret de famille to compliment the ID card just in case. My mum often takes our kids to the UK so I type out a letter of parental consent just in case.

no problmem with kids travelling with old photos - my kids' photos are years out of date but never have a problem plus their id cards are free so why pay a fortune for french or uk passports ;-)

yep im going to get him a passport Christopher. Going to try to sort it out before his Christmas trip! Thanks for you your reply!

Get him a passport. If you are British, get him a British passport. A passport is an international travel document. An ID card is not.

the IST (Interdiction Sortie du Territoire) has now stopped and children may freely travel between the borders of European countries for holiday purposes (less than 30 days) on a valid ID card or valid passport. A quick note though, if the rare event that the family juge has issued an order against such travel, of course that will put a damper on it.
