Tree Roots

Does anybody have any experience of this?
We are digging up the ground floor (concrete slab) and have come across tree roots that we think come from next doors rather large bush. They are clearly causing damage structurally, not major damage, but are possibly the cause of some cracking of the steps and wall. What, if anything, can we do?

If it was me id inform my insurance company and let them deal with it . As it will take a long time to try and sort it your self with a neighbour if he wont remove bush ... also once killed the roots will shrink and you will have more problems. As long a your neighbour is insured it wont cost him to much .
