Trusty old Humax Foxsat now won't show U& channels

About 2 weeks ago we lost the U& channels (Freesat 156 to 160). I did find the reason this has happened and also that the Foxsat cannot be made to change it’s mind.
I have an old Manhattan HD set top box and that does work ok with the U& channels. But no recording and no rewinding live TV. Hardish-of-hearing means we use rewind and replay a lot.

Any recommendations, please, for Freesat machines that will get the U& channels, and record, and not cost silly money? My dish is 1m dia and signal strength/quality are good.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a U& channel please?

Also, as an aside, this evening I lost sound on Channel 4 and ITV 1 for the second time recently.

It is the UKTV series of channels, they used to be Dave, Watch etc

I have the same. What is the reason?

The simple answer is Factory Reset. It only works if nothings recording

Or… Delete the Channels (it’s in settings). Then do a Freesat Channnel Scan. This way keeps your recording/reminder schedules.

If your box is HD compatible it can receive the channels.

They changed frequencies but also changed the coding system - some Humax boxes seem to be getting confused. A simple channel scan wont work unless you delete the channels first

Thank you chrisell … all working again.

I think the current high pressure may have something to do with it - here in Sud-Angleterre we’ve been getting the “no or bad signal” message appearing on the BBC News channel (via Freesat).

I did a full rescan of the channels on our Humax box which reported 100% success at finding channels and full signal strength, so I don’t think it’s the box or the dish.

I just switched to someone else’s news, I wasn’t intending to stay though because Mastermind was almost ready to start. :grinning:

How many points did you get?

Thanks. I tried factory reset but I didn’t know the PIN so that didn’t work. But deleting the offending channels and rescanning worked. All is well. Now there just needs to be something worth watching there. Yesterday used to have good stuff but not much lately.

Most of the cheap sat TV receivers on Amazon will record on an SD card now and can be had for 30-40 euros. BUT, they don’t have the extended schedule like the old Humax and Manhattan boxes. But it is an option if you know what you want to see.

Thank you, I think. As far as I know I can still get Dave, but I never watch it. I’ll go and check.

Right, I’ve got Dave OK, but now listed as U&Dave, never seen that before. Nearly got distracted too, there are a bunch of Aussies trying to pull a couple of heavy machines out of the mud. :grinning:

Let’s just say that I will be there for the next round.
