UK Electronic Travel Authorisation process

A new online pre-UK travel authorisation process to consider, for non UK nationals travelling to the UK. Aimed at UK ‘non-visa’ nationals…Coming ‘soon’, ie in 2024 or 2025…clearly based on the US and EU models. I must admit I hadn’t heard of this one!

How appropriate, wasn’t ETA a ‘terrorist’ Basque independence movement?

It’s been in the pipeline at least as long as ETIAS/EES - which makes it particularly disingenuous that the RW British press has been loudly complaining about the EU schemes.

Whereas our home grown solution is just perfect, even football pundits have vented their spleen.

Has this come into play, now needed for EU citizens traveling to the UK. We have a a few meetings & a Trade show to attend in March. I’m the only one that has a British PP.

It starts on 25th February 2026. So yes your Euro colleagues will need to apply for ETA.

As always nowadays, “there is an app for that”.

Thanks Chris, I did a quick search before & only came up with it will be inforce from April 2025, reading comments on here & one of my colleagues recently went over to do some Xmas shopping didn’t mention it.

Well i wouldn’t put it past them to postpone it like the EU did!!

Haven’t you learnt anything about the UK? When it comes to taking more money off people the systems are flawless. When it comes to reducing costs, it’s impossible in our lifetime

True a lot of the time - but note that Boris failed to set up the necessary UK border checks on goods for a long time after Brexit. A lot of import duty not collected and all sorts of dodgy food let through probably.

I’m not sure if Labour have sorted it yet, it hasn’t been mentioned on the news.

Indeed, it made a complete mockery of the ‘taking back control of our borders’ nonsense.

Came into St Malo this morning. Announcement on the ferry saying the EES had started and to expect delays. However, no “sorting” of passengers and no evidence of any change from the normal procedures.

We came through St Malo recently (it would probably be our crossing of choice but the timings don’t work out normally).

It was clear they were checking foot passengers but not vehicles.

I wonder what they will do with a British single national without a passport.
Good job I don’t want to go there then, but I am somewhat amused to wonder also what would happen if the French, on finding I am a national of nowhere, front up at the border to be told ‘he isn’t ours, you’ll have to keep him’.

Are all the border checks on the UK side?

Entry and exit coming from France, seems to be entry only coming into UK but passport “checked” at ferry check in at Portsmouth

If you have French friends or neighbours planning on visiting the UK, they might wish to know that the cost of an ETA rises from €18 to €23 from 8 April. The “excuse’ given is the need to pay for the modernisation of the UK border system (good luck with that!).

barbed wire along the beaches?
