Post moved elsewhere

A relief in a way.

I think the UK has changed unrecognisably in terms of ‘put up shut up and get on with it’ culture since I was at school there in the Dark Ages. It is quite extraordinary, all this pathetic hooha about wearing a mask, opting out of all sorts of things with some ludicrous cop-out excuse.

It is Woke gone mad!

That is precisely why Brexit it such a bad idea, UK lost it’s ability became weak and nanny state, fine until you try and strike out on your own, big hard lessons will be learnt the hard way.

I actually see a lot of these ridiculous behaviours as symptoms of a population that feels totally disenfranchised, and so unconsciously seeks to find things where they can exert minute bits of control/rebellion and not be like “them” in what seems to be a world gone mad.

Some see this as precisely the reason that we should  Brexit - that we have deskilled as “real” decision making power moved to Brussels.

Personally I’m more inclined to think that just enough competent government trickled down to save us from the worst incompetences of our own politicians.

Either way suddenly trying to acquire the full skill set for independence overnight was always going to go badly, add that to some odd and outdated notions of sovereignty and how international trade is structured and I think we’re in for a very bumpy landing in Jan (of course it would have been awful without Covid, it will be cataclysmic with it).

It looks increasingly likely that France has closed its borders to UK from midnight tonight.

and this effectively buggers up late comers wanting to settle before 31/12/20

Only for 48 hours for the minute, but imagine it will continue in some form.

Sadly for passengers and freight, and our Christmas parcel for children and grandchildren seems to be stuck at Essone, where it has been for days now.

They are asking for an extension because it’s Europe’s fault…

This is effectively Brexit, just a couple of days early!

Yup, well the travel aspect of it anyway.

Though to be fair the borders are closed because of a combination of Brexit and Covid - and the current ban might well have been put into place even without Brexit.

Does this mean that all freight into and out of the UK is suspended?

Edited to say just read Figaro article and unaccompanied freight is allowed. I presume that means food?

Not all, freight that doesn’t need to be physically handled will continue and the ban is only from the UK not into.

Buggar.

Presumably French truck drivers will not want to join the sticky morass in Kent blocking their return at Dover?
