Unwanted fiction titles

Does anyone have any suggestions please for disposing of a couple of hundred english language fiction paperbacks - I’m moving home and don’t want to keep them but reluctant to just recycle them. I’m based in Landes and happy to give them away!

The only name I have is Phoenix Rescue based between Perigueux and Bergerac in the Dordogne though I think others have national numbers.

I sold what I could (many at 15c! But some suprisimg prices like €10) either to Momox or the Librarie du Sart/librarie solidaire

The rest I donated to them, and they send free parcel labels. It’s a faff and did take quite a while as you have to enter all the ISBN numbers to see if they’ll buy them but I can’t bear the thought of books being pulped. Overall I made about €200, it was an awful lots of boxes!! I think 25 of donated books that had to be hauled down to the lockers. If you donate you don’t have to enter the numbers just find not too big boxes and pack them up

Before starting to read this thread, the caption prompted thoughts of a humorous New Yorker style article, or a Borgesian short story.

The Register of Unwanted Fiction Titles, and its companion volume, The Register of Unwanted non-Fiction Titles - sources authors could plunder to AI generate unwanted, unreadable books to be sold on Amazon to unsuspecting would be readers

Too fancifully dystopian? Read this recent NY Times article (unlocked)

Thank you so much for this idea! So far I’ve only looked at Momox (which I’d never heard of before) but although as you suggest it’s a little tedious entering the codes (and reminds me how much I need new glasses!) it’s quite fascinating trying to anticipate the offer (or not) . I’ve only scratched the surface of my collection so far but am quickly up to 30€.

I’m pausing now for the evening and will resume when I’ve looked into packaging and worked out how much I can lift - did you use the La Poste style cartons for packaging or is that not necessary? I’m planning to use Mondial Relay for the free despatch.

Momox give you free postage labels too. I just collected smallish boxes from shops, prob max 20 or 25 books at a time as the large mondial relay lockers are always at the top! I seem to remember they give you guidelines that shouldn’t be over 10kg or similar.

I did batches and then sent them off as was motivating seeing the empty space appear.

Slow, but worthwhile! And even slower as then had to reread a couple of books.
