Veolia and bill paying

Good morning, i have a holiday home in normandy and at the beginning of the year my water supplier changed from saur to veolia. I thought i had set up a monthly mandate with veolia after a lot of toing and froing but seems not the case and now they want payment in full for what i think is the year ,but have been unable to pay it online and have had no response to emails, anyone else had this problem and if so how did you sort it out ?

Give them a ring, they have the numbers on the invoice you ring and then choose what you want to ask or go to the local office and pay it there face to face. Emails rarely get answered by big companies and don’t leave it too long or you will get clamped at the stopcock. I have been with Véolia for the past 35 years and never had any problems at all in that time.

Good morning @Harley21 and welcome to Survive France. I live in Normandy and have also noticed the change in water supplier. I understand that others may have experienced difficulties with the changeover too but I’m afraid I can’t help with the standing order thing as we always pay on arrival of the bill. My partner paid the latest bill so I’ll ask him about it when he gets back from shopping and get back to you…

Hello again @Harley21

I’ve just checked with my partner and he paid the bill using his debit card following the instructions on the back of the invoice.

Looking at it, I think we may have paid twice since it in no way matches what we paid before and there is no deail on the consumption, but we’ll take that up separately.

Thankyou for responding. I had an email saying i owed €254 with a link to a pay point which doesnt seem to work plus i have sent a mandate and now because it isnt paid they are taking legal action . I live in uk and have only managed to get back to France once this year , phoning them not an option as my french is bad and have emailed them again hoping for response

Be careful - this may not be a genuine email, it could be a scam. As a general rule, unless you are sure of the origin of an email, it’s very unwise to click links within an email, especially if it comes out of the blue and is is requesting urgent action.

This seems to be the page at Veolia that you use to pay your bill online - you may need to set up an online account first:

(ETA: it looks like they also have an app that you can use to check consumption and pay any bills remotely:)

Hello and welcome to the forum @Harley21

You should have received a bill, so you can complete the TIP and enclose it with a cheque on your French bank account…

If you’ve not been using the holiday home, the sum should be negligible.

Hi ,thanks but have tried these but because I neither have account number or ref number I carnt access these

Check again… you must have had some information in order to set up the monthly mandate originally… :crossed_fingers: :+1:

I might of had a bill but probably sitting in mail box in france .As said I have filled in a mandate which I got back in May when I last visited. But have been unable to get hardly any response to emails

How odd… Bills and Mandate sent in the post, but a “threatening letter” sent by email… makes the email sound even more “iffy”

why not get a neighbour to check your letterbox…

This may be obvious, but have you checked the account you used for the mandate to see if any payments have been collected?

If they have, then there is probably nothing to worry about and the email is a scam attempt.

Will do

No payments as yet ,I did think that with email as it did look dodgy
