It has to be right what you suggest, I'll do a quick 'flavour' of ow this might work. OK to use a Henry?
Valid Points...thanks...I think you are right a thicker 'border' will do the trick and still allow the respective issues to 'stand' alone...
Only thought for now is colour complimenting or distracting from featured artwork? For example, keep the design as is but maybe increase the white borders slightly to put the red at a distance from the artwork? Just a thought, but will bow to your superior talents in designosphere.
HI, I'm hoping that no one takes issue with the fact that initial stages of this project are being played out in 'full view' so to speak. Much of the later work, like any publication will be 'done in the in the office'....
I think this could be an visible example to how the SFN Network can pool resources and produce something cohesive and of quality, through a like minded attitude, a common goal, even though not all of the players will be available at all times.
I think it might also serve as a good testament of how technology has enabled us to contemplate this which is effectively a Journal all which will be created, and promoted ( again for free ) all carried out 'remotely'...quite exciting....watch out Murdoch...we's coming
Phew... got there in the end...I will need to go through the permissions loop, when we come to publishing the internal Pages. But that will best be done via SFN PMs....
I'll leave this up for now, to let Neil see sight and indeed Catharine James and Sheila who has just volunteered to proof read!!! What appeals to me about the project is that within the confines of the Art Department we have resources such as artists, writers, artworkers and marketeers on tap.
I'm sure we would all want to keep the publication as slick and up market as possible, so whether there should be some sort of selection process is open for debate. I'm more than happy to tow the line as I will only be assembling the pages... perhaps that element should be discussed by the Principals.... In the meantime I have more than enough material to produce quite a few pages, with 'permissions' already in place.
Phew..sorry about that all. It does pose the question form a style point of view...will the 'local' colour affect the Frontispiece' should the back ground be white?... or when we change the Front ( in tandem with the lead article 'Focus on' ) should a 'complimentary' back ground colour be used...it would help to differentiate the respective issues.
Like
aaargh..I've typed Plamer!!!
OK Art Lovers....
I have wizzed the viz past J ad C who whilst busy on the airwaves have agreed to stay in the loop, as they have a vested interest, which is understood. But if I may verbalise...
Why the Magazine?
ON the understanding that any Artist, Designer, Craftsperson wants their work to be seen, enjoyed and used... the Art Department is not for shy melons...hairy or not. So 'out there' is where it's at'
Shouldn't this just be an Art Department thing?
Well if there is any ethos at all it would be 'Art for all' and not 'Elitist' ... you may as well charge admission into Galleries...
The Concept
Published monthly, and featuring artists, designers, illustrators etc etc intrinsically as a Showcase for Art Department members... but subject to the take up of interest, accepting input from external sources has not been ruled out. In fact were this to be a Commercial enterprise, Press releases would be invited and encouraged.
The Format
A4 finished pages which allows for 'Double page spreads' for the more sizeable articles. We shall be using one of the many 'free' flick through style Publishers. Most allow 'updates' amends 'links' even video insertions.
The Hierarchy
The Principals of the Art department Niel and mysef in conjunction with Sheila co-admin on the FaceBook page will coordinate.
The initial Banner is that of the Art Department which is a very popular group here at SFN. But in order to allow continuity The SFN administration are happy that this ( and perhaps other publications ) fall within SFN's Branding Guidelines. I would stress here that it is SFN has allowed this opportunity to arise, and we should be mindful of that when creating our links etc. Linking back to the Art Dept and SFN will be a criteria of submission.
Content
It is hoped that Sheila Walshe-Blackmore will start with a lead Article for the launch issue. She is very much in the know as she does hang with a bunch of Arty Beatnicks. Topics may be varied but one would expect to see a French Flavour, Techniques and critiques and how to-s. Clearly, our aim is not to dilute what may have been published on SFN in any event , but to create a classy Art Compendium of which we can all be proud. Issie Brookes is going to lend a hand putting the thing together, but we will need support when it comes to marketing.
Types of entry
The original 'commercial concept' of my own included fashion, photography, interiors etc... so mindful not to tread on toes, we are concentrating on the Visual Arts in the interim.
The Name
Global Village was a phrase coined by Mcluhan in the 60s....visionary indeed. Here is the proposed Front Cover up to Badger Standard... ( it's a rough )
let me amend that
OOPs sorry
Looks and sounds very good. That painting is actually by Jon Lisle-Summers not Ian

Hi, thats fine but I had confirmed friendship..Either is OK with us. S
I need you to be friends first... although I do have permission to upload a .jpeg here... so If that's OK with you and Ian..I'll do that.

Hi Sue...I have just mocked up a front cover proposal for the Arts Mag which features one of Ian's Paintings, I have passed it to James and Catharine and Neil for a look see, I have also requested a friendship from you so that I can send you a sample.. can't go public yet... obviously
He he... just found out that Ian Palmer ( Art Department ) also studied at the WSCD in West Sussex... there are a few Alumni who are members ... Can you guess who they are? It was a great place to study, and the institution has spawned many an influential entity Google: Jamie Hewlett Gorillaz or Allen Martin Tank Girl Google Robert Smith ( the Cure ) Porl Thompson, Leo Sayer, Ron Birks, and if your are really old Alma Cogan! the list goes on.
