Vocab - sump pump sump

Was chatting with the gardener - at some point I probably want to lay some pipe through the garden to take the water from the cellar pump to the fosse at the edge of our plot (which will need a trench hence asking the gardener - but he seems a practical type and, of course, he knows someone with a backhoe  )

So, I was trying to describe the situation - pompe de vidange is easy enough but I was stupmed for the best word for “sump” - puisard? but Word Reference suggests that is in the context of a cesspool which definitely isn’t what I have going on in the cellar.

Is there a better word?

Pompe a vide cave, but likely exactly the same thing as pompe de vidange. Someone else might know different…

It was the word for sump that I was after…

Réservoir ?

You could use “puits de collecte” for the cellar based water collector.

Not sure I know my sumps from my pumps in english, so use interchangeably une pompe de puisard, pompe de vidange and pompe d’assechisement.

Thanks everyone

Bac tampon?

Pompe de relevage à partir d’une fosse

And of course the well known assassination, as an English friend insisted on calling the drainage.
