Water Ombudsman?

Is there any consumer organisation in France that can help us with problems we have with Eau par Agur? We had a massive water leak. We repaired the leak. Our bills have gone up x10 in the past 18 months. Our estimated future bills are now based on our water usage during the leak. Agur are totally deaf to reason. Our banks accounts have now been frozen. Any suggestions gratefully received.

If you go and talk with your Mairie, they may be able to advise the Who and the Where you need to address your problem.

It’s certainly not correct that future estimated bills should be based on water used/lost during a “leak period”.

Were you able to make an Insurance Claim for the water leak?

Have the last 18 months’ bills been Agur’s way of recuperating the cost of the lost water?

Who found the leak - and - who mended it - were Agur involved?

Hi, can’t claim on the insurance. There is the Warsmann Law that says you don’t have to pay more than double if you repair the leak within one month of notification. Agur claim to have written to us in 2017 but we were mostly away that year and our mailbox was stuffed to capacity. We alerted them early in 2018 that we might have a leak. They waited a year and then sent a form letter saying we may have a leak. We fixed the leak over Xmas (within one month). As the leak happen in 2017, they are allowed to estimate all our future water bills on the last three years - the years of the leak! We must have paid them over a thousand Euros so far. Our water bills were never more than €400 pa. Our next bill is for €1700. The Marie said they will reduce our sewage charges by half and that’s all folks!

That’s awful. Shame Agur did NOT turn the water off at their stopcock, just before your meter, when they found you had a leak.

This is really crazy. I do hope you can find someone to help.

Were was the leak?

Presumably eventually this will resolve when the annual reconciliation is done.

I have had a discussion with Agur last week (got lucky as chap on the phone spoke English) - we have bought a house for renovation so the water usage over the next year will be next to nothing - they have amended our direct debit to reflect the anticipated usage.

Perhaps demonstrate via weekly water meter readings that your usage is much lower than they are predicting?
