Well I did say I wanted a new project lol!

Hello and welcome from Uzerche. I pick up the keys to my new property on Tuesday and it's only taken me a month - everyone has been so helpful, it's been a dream for 10 years and I've spent thousands of hours this last year searching on the Internet and reading about different departments - one night I looked at all 4000 properties on one website, so if you need to ask me anything I can probably give you an opinion. In the end it came down to a stunning rural property a bit more expensive but with land and in a sunny area near Rochachourt or a stunning very large townhouse where the elderly lady had lived for 45 years, being sold by a very nice family, it's in Correze so is cooler but I don't mind that as its in the fairytale old town of Uzerche, good for communications, has all amenities and stunning views of the River Vezere and rooftops and turrets. It's set up as 3 apartments so ideal for tourists in the summer and it's a very old property so plenty for me to do. I can do decorating and simple jobs like everyone I am on a budget so am looking for good trades people I can work with to renovate the house. I work in PR and Marketing part time, helping clients maximise their online presence ie social media, Wordpress, websites and blogging - so if you need any advice just ask, I'd be glad to help. I am 60 next year, I have a daughter in the UK and p/t but coming over to live with me and I have a dog. I like history, gardening, chess, reading, decorating and renovating old houses and socialising although I am vegetarian bordering on vegan which is a bit tricky in France so I do eat cheese and fish if eating out! That's all for now oh and I speak French although it's rusty it's coming back from school days of 40 years ago!

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to your new life In Uzerche, "la perle du Limousin". You probably know that "who has a house in Uzerche has a castle in Limousin".

All the best.

Thank you Christian, very kind. Here is a picture of it - I have the most famous toilet in Uzerche as it appears in all the pictures, lol. The turrets belong to the Chateau next door, I am cheekily perched on the end.

Hi Sarah,

Well done. Looks like a cracking project you've started.

Like you, we've chosen to buy in the Correze...Affieux, near Treignac. Not ours yet, but in a few months time will be. Ours is an old Auberge which needs renovating, but hopefully, it's nothing structural. A bit of paint and imagination really.

All very exciting! Keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on?

Good luck :-)

Hi Bob, just looked at it on Google, very pretty. You definitely get more house for your money here, although obviously being higher up, you also get more "weather"! Earlier in the year getting off the ferry I was the only English car down here and I've only seen one other so far!

I've been renting a cottage in Saint Germain les Belles while the transaction went through, I am looking forward to getting the keys tomorrow, the house is set up as 3 apartments, one is functional, one can be let to tourists and the ground floor hasn't been lived in so there's nothing there; the attic is a Bargain Hunt delight with masses of old stuff they've left me and the cellar is huge - so it's quite a project, the old lady lived in it for 45 years, it even has it's own arrow slit as it's built into the granite rock. I've listed the apartment on AirBnB for July and August so busy making appointments to get that upgraded to start the income flowing in. It's very pretty around here and if you need anything just ask (if I know it!) and I'll be posting updates and no doubt asking questions myself. Just bought a French registered LHD car today! Cheers, Sarah

Hi Sarah, Your house looks amazing,I bet you'll find lots of interesting stuff in the attic,I'd love a rummage around.I didn't know of the town,as you said its a real fairytale place. I admire you for taking on this project on your own and I look forward to hear how you get on.

Thank you Suzy, it is actually very comfortable as they have left me a lot of lovely things, I paid a sum and itemised some larger items, they've left me immaculate mattresses, beautiful quilts, the attic is a treasure trove and they mowed the lawn for me. It is very charming and I feel very lucky, yes I have come over on my own, feel strangely at home and definitely it's a new lease of life, many thanks for your good wishes, the estate agent was marvellous, bank manager v helpful and I've even bought a French car already, my house is in a one way system and I am having trouble getting out the car as it's a narrow street and my tummy won't fit, I am sure that will reduce though with the exercise I am getting here.

I know this is old post, but what a choice to make. I used to live nr to Pompadour and sold up 2 years ago and looking again in the area, maybe Uzerche. It is a lovely town and while not a hotspot like the Dordogne it is more French and far more relaxed.

Hope you are enjoying your time here and your French has improved lots since then;. Winters can be cold (bitter!) but summers are amaxing and Lac Poncharal is amazing, even better outside the main season. I would be interested in your experiences of living in Uzerche over the past few years
