What Brexit means to me

Saying goodbye Jane. Best of luck!

In my opinion…I don’t think Simon intends to be rude… different people have different ideas of humour… that’s all.

I never intended to be rude - just real.

Don’t do that Jeanette (ā€œshut up nowā€) 'cos I reckon your Serena Williams-style volleys over the SFN centre-court net are much appreciated! :joy:

PG… Serena is a big gal, I don’t have anything like a microfraction of that kind of energy…I have shut up…but no doubt will stagger back from time to time.

832 euros is around twice as much as I live on…but as someone said…rules for a Carte de Sejour/legal residence permit…may make such a whacking great big income, obligatory! But I’m a happy minimalist, and don’t want 99% of the stuff that money buys…except for… insurance cover…:grinning:

@anon78757855 I hope you already have a permanent residence card then…!

Ah…no …I haven’t! My rendezvous is for April, but …I have lived/worked here for around 25 years, tiny-ish house owner, no govt assistance, European Passport, dual nationality …very old!

Well if you already have french nationality then you don’t need a residence permit? If you don’t then please make sure that you can show hard evidence of having had an income above the threshold for at least 5 years during that 25 years. Presumably you have your tax returns? If not do get copies. If your income is under the threshold then make sure you can show that as a mortgage free owner-occupier you can manage on your income and hopefully that will be accepted. Here are some useful links for you.

That’s not British sea. British sea is greyer colder and muddier.

Thank you Jane!

Very useful information…you’ve not painted a pretty picture fore me, but offered what seems to me to be facts, so I hope it’s useful to someone else, too… No I haven’t got French Nationality, I am Brit/German. I will collect my European passport, in a few days time. I always send in my tax return, but it’s too low to pay tax, I don’t claim any kind of benefit. No mortgage, thank heavens. No car, no telly, no vices! Just internet.

…and of course, insurance etc. I manage very well now, on my income, and since my biggest joy, and my painting work.(sold abroad),.is in the countryside, mostly painting landscapes, I have no expenses except paint etc. …Countryside and gardens…give benefits of their own, the peace is healing, exercise is free, the beauty everywhere seems to be to be all I need, for my work. I grow a few things, for food. Not a lot! It would be much better to find out how to make best growing use of my micro terrain, rather than ever attempt to earn more money.

It’s quite good soil now, but like a tiny forest.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That’s an amazing amount of money…presumed necessary!

No way to get that much!

I forgot my cat…vets fees and kennel fees when I go away to work.

If you have always sent in your tax returns (doesn’t matter that you haven’t paid any tax, it’s the declaration that counts), and have lived here for over 10 years then they should give you a residence permit. They are supposed to consider people’s individual lifestyles, so if you don’t meet the income threshold for having lived here legally you will need to show that you can manage on the income you have. Think about how you could demonstrate that simply - maybe write out a budget?

That’s a very good idea! Yes, I could do that!

Very small budget, It’s a kind of hobby/interest…to research ways to live comfortably, but very cheaply.

Facebook groups, many groups, follow that path!

I very rarely ā€œgo shoppingā€ except for buying on the web.

Love the recycle shop!

The companies who provide online service, sometime free delivery… are multiplying, and are excellent in my experience.

I like to go to one of the villages, via the nearest flattest route! I have an e-bike.,I’m putting a tiny motor engine on another bike, which should be very cheap to run, too. For essential transport.

Somtimes gets a bit hairy!! My roof collapsed and had to be replaced cheaply. But the bank is always kind, and offers reasonable loans.

…No savings.Thats not good!

So, I will do that! Thank you!. I’ve got bank info and all payments for work info.If UK cuts off healthcare, and it is necessary to buy private health insurance, that might be more difficult, but not impossible…

I wonder if anyone can suggest a company.

Thank you Jane!

Sounds like my life

No money in a bank account anywhere

Currently the State pays me 580 euros a month, out of which 200 is my mortgage.

Grow / produce a vast percentage of my own food.

Water from the well & from the roof for sanitary & animals…consumption down from 127 m3 in 2003 to 37 in 2018.

Good weather means cooking outside.

Trade plants etc. with my neighbours.

Luckily, my health is holding up, thus far.

If the S1 system is cut off and you have to pay for healthcare it is 8% of your income above the threshold…but since you are below the threshold it is possible that you won’t have to pay anything…and you will be eligible for CMU-C the complimentary cover.

So don’t fret about that now. Aim to get your permanent resident card and take the rest one step at a time.

And Bob, you should be able to get CMU-C too?

The young lady at MSA in Castres told me I was eligible & gave me a list of things to supply.
I duly did this & took everything back to her to be signed off & sent.
I received a letter stating my dossier was incomplete, & could I send the following…in fact, just stuff I’d sent already & they’d presumably lost…as a bonus, CMU takes 6-8 weeks to process.
I’m not complaining ; just happy that my health is solid.
