…good for them whoever they are…biking is excellent exercise and well done everyone over 40 if you keep going. There are no dress laws that I can think of and I celebrate diversity and embracing free choice in everything…anyone out there dreaming of pink,or luminous green Spandex…go for it…and brighten up a grey day…
I suspect for many that support Brexit it is the bureaucrats that they want to loose. In their work many are locked in a job description. Deviation is punished. They are held accountable. But they do not see accountability mirrored by those in power, whether local or central politicians, executives of utilities, executives of charities. Seek the opinion of: daily rail commuters, those victims of the postcode lottery that is health, education. policing and other areas that should be equal throughout the UK. But, if they are unhappy with the representation of their views in UK politics they are totally invisible in European politics. Their MEP gives them no information, no feedback. They are told that Europe demands this, that, the other. Other European countries celebrate their “Indication Géographique Protégée”: wine, cheese, charcuterie
Are British politicians alone in failing to explainthe EU to the British? NATO is not the EU. Sharing terrorist intelligence is not the EU. The Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and other multinational scientific co-operation including, of course, global warming is not the EU.
How much EU money has gone to UK areas economically and socially devastated by the loss of a major industry employing directly or indirectly thousands of workers - coal, shipbuilding, steel etc.
As others have pointed out Brexiteers have not rejected Europe but the EU. Are they alone? How do the Gilet Jaunes think. What about the Greeks, the Italians, in Andalucia the socialist are no longer in control. The 2008 financial crisis, increased terrorism, economic refugees, widening gap between the wealthiest citizens and the remaining 95% has fueled growing disatisfaction with the globalisation direction of the western worlds direction, particularly Merkel in Germany.
I detect an increasing perception in UK constituents that politicians live in a totally different world and do not listen. My local politicians are arrogant and do not reply to emails. At a surgery, when I brought up the catastrophic effect of dis-managed traffic disruption by gas, sewer, cable companies they declared that they were powerless. Does France believe Macron is listening or belligerently knee jerking?
I suggest that part of the debate is not that we the electors should be more assertive with our democracy and politicians but what are the most effective ways in which we can demonstrate that assertiveness democratically.
I have previously posted how much my MEP helped both myself and all other UK retirees.
I am on the mailing list of two of my MEP’s.
My experience of UK MEP’s has been excellent.
The Spandex I can just about tolerate ; it’s the “how-to-ride-four-abreast-on-a-“d” road” that appears to be part of the training program that pisses me off
For me there’s something just not quite right about the leg shaving…(no explanations required thanks
)
Aerodynamics come with a price
Well if you don’t shave your legs the hairs poke through your tights !
There we are you see - nonne ever explained that to me !!
What’s wrong with you people, this is a Brexit thread but you’re now talking about shaved legs and tights!
Not happy, I’m going for another beer and expect the usual ’ the end is nigh’ to have returned after dinner.
Okay back to Brexit reality.
I’m going to be stuck in this country, whilst not receiving my non-existant UK pension because Mogg the disaster capitalist wants to push through legislation that safeguards his Caymen Islands based investments…I’ll probably have to marry a “woman” from this département who has a better beard than I can ever hope to grow; & resign myself to eating dodgy charcuterie, & participate in the local “Loto des Chasseurs” until I’m old enough to dribble in front of the “sunny window” at the local maison de retraite…at least until the social decide I’m no longer eligible…
Happy now Tim ?
That’s France …being superbly respectful of the little guy. No pushy royals, in 4x4s have rights over bikers here. “The big difference when cycling in France is where the blame lies in the event of an accident involving a cyclist. In all instances, the fault will automatically rest with the the driver of the larger vehicle (be it a car, bus or whatever) and the driver will have to prove that the cyclist was doing something really stupid that resulted in the accident”.
Out of order! Remember the ‘dinner party’ rule!? What’s unacceptable about hairy legs and Spandex for dinner party conversation.?
I think Tim is very much tongue-in-cheek, Jeanette, he is the absolutely perfect dinner-party guest, and is well-served with a good chablis grand cru Blanchot.
There’s a time and place to discuss Ann’s hairy legs (or was it Simon’s?) and this isn’t the correct conversation, perhaps another one should be started - ‘unwanted undergrowth and what to do about it?’ sounds like a good title.
'Sokay, PG, I Don’t want to smite him…or snitch his grand cru. A bit astonished, shaken, maybe, by recent brush with bloke who sounded like a KKK wizard except he lives in Surbiton or similar…
Probably now inclined to attempt to change the subject, …whenever… b.r.e.x.i.t. …might come up…I will shut up now.
So prejudged.
That is exactly the same as my brush with the gendarmerie.
What happened? You squashed a biker?
@anon87147852 … I give in… I’ve been trying not to ask, but… have you recently been given a magic button so you can post these replies
Yeah Simon - enough!! Otherwise I will have to assume you are entirely teaching this semester by means of GIFS…
Now that’s a whole other debate!!
I have been having an e-mail conversation with my MP, a Shadow Minister and have been briefing him on the fact that the UK has said that they will support our healthcare for one year only if there is No Deal.
What have you been doing, apart from being rude to people?
