Molasses. I miss molasses. Witch hazel (I finally found some online at Onatera). Peanut butter.
You can get molasses in bio shops. Mélasse de sucre de canne.
Witch hazel is hamamélis and you can get it at the chemists or an herboristerie.
Edited to add that the best peanut butter in the world is Dakatine, made in Strasbourg and available in supermarkets.
@MaryW On the critical (to me!) issue of the availability of good peanut butter, in particular the Crunchy variety, we regularly use this French sports nutrition site which sells superb crunchy PB in 1kg tubs. It often has special offers.
Wish I had brought Marmite. And Fairy Liquid. And Branston Pickle. And Fat Face. And Wilko’s. And Boots Chemist. Good luck with the move.
The Ancient Mariner is one of my all time fave poems. Charlie in Dunfermline took me straight back to school The king sits in Dunfermline toon drinking his blude red wine…happy days my schooldays really were etc.,
me too
I feel a little guilty. The ‘handle’ relates to the early days of my mountain biking when I rode an ancient Marin bike, although the obvious link to a great classic does no harm at all. It was amusing at the time, and rather stayed across the last couple of decades and a number of different forums.
Guess it’s become my albatross.
Wish Ihad brought my wheelbarrow with me when I moved. Moving earth in buckets is hard work and so is weeding without my trusty Hammelin.
Today I found a local source of fairy liquid ![]()
The La Périgourdine, if you have a store nearby, and it on promo until the 24th feb.
sorry, typing with one hand cats on lap ![]()
Fairy liquid gave me a terrible rash, my late MIL was totally allergic to it. I find the french hyperallergenic ones are very good. Also the Fairy dishwasher tablets which arenot cheap, I found did not do a very good job and went back to Finish.
That takes me right back! I remember those first Marin bikes - later had the privilege of riding the trails of Marin County.
I have happy memories of riding, nowhere as exotic as that! Thanks for sharing. ![]()
Used to do testing and stuff for MBUK. Had lots of good experiences, met lots of good people.
I may have even seen you in the magazine when I was a regular reader in the early 2000s, if you were ever featured. I still have some MBUK logo’d stuff laying around.
We were “The wrecking crew” from 87 to 92. It was great fun testing bikes and equipment with some of the top racers of the time. Unfortunately we stopped contributing in 1998 as we went off to the USA for another adventure and came a cropper to a hit and run accident in Mexico, and my husband was unable to work after that.
Sorry to hear about the accident - must have been very tough.
Your MBUK involvement was a little before I started seriously, so probably I missed you.
I had a Marin Stinson hybrid - until it got pinched. I now have a Trek 4000 mountain bike which is 14 years old now but still in good condition as it’s a bit of a lump and I hardly ever ride it. ![]()
I had a Trek for quite a while in the 90s, for racing, then a Cannondale. These days I ride a Kona Explosif. Not far, not fast but still enjoy it.
Our son worked for the Bicester Trek store as a mechanic for about 6 months in 2022-3 before going off to Sardinia working for Nielsen as a guide/coach. He seemed to like the Treks, though I don’t think he owns one now.
Nice cycling in Sardinia .
