What exercises work for you?

Well, now I’ve turned the cormer on weight loss, putting it back on again, I want to go to a gym to make sure it doesn’t go straight to fat. They won’t take me on without a doctor’s note and he has referred the issue to later in the month and my heart visit.

You do spoil her Dr. Mark .
Not sure I could get away with that

Yes, I know what I’d do with that if given as a gift!

Tai Chi and Qui Gong are both great for flexibility and muscle condition. When I can I do a wild goose qui gong set as a gentle getting moving and start the day

So long as you are doing what you can then it’s better than doing nothing. Resistance training has been shown to improve bone density which is important as we age. I am trying to find trials that prove taking calcium supplements does anything to improve bone density over the age of 65.

Yea, I know - she really wanted flowers, but being a practical guy, I thought that if she built up some muscle, she could carry more of the shopping…

This morning we had some time to kill after the market, because Gigi was having the two hour toilettage session that transforms her from a scruffy little mutt, into the daughter of champions. So we did a round of RAGT, SuperU, Aldi, going steadily downmarket (though I’d never slag off Aldi).

And it was in Aldi that I found another fitness bargain to pair with Madame’s kettlebell, albeit for myself this time. I’d been looking for barbells and some heavier weights for a while, but baulked at the cost. In our local store the bar alone is €39.99, but in Aldi I found a bar and 20kg of weights (2x2kg/3kg/5kg) for only €29.99. Even if you prefer just using dumb bells it might still be worth buying to extend your range of weights. My only caveat was that the retaining nuts were heavy ABS not steel, but as I had a spare pair of the latter that didn’t matter (and they’re easily bought online).

Advantage if I bought them - they couldn’t rust in the cave.

I’ve noticed that dumb bells can also make very good doorstops…

Kettle bells are better, they don’t roll away

I noticed that the dumbbell doorstop actually consists of two, one resting on the other, but I’ll concede that a kettlebell would probably make a better doorstop.

In fairness I’m being slightly unfair, as I’m pretty sure my friend with the dumbbell doorstops does also use them for their intended purpose. However, the weights certainly have many other applications, including pressing down duck legs when confiting them in a casserole dish.

Can’t give any links, but from what I’ve read people over 65 should make sure they are getting enough vitamin D, without which calcium will not be absorbed properly. It’s also generally important for the immune system. I just had mine tested and it’s woefully low.

Yes agreed, that’s what I have got from many sources. However as we age we should also be taking K2, I use K2 mk7 as this works together with D3 to take calcium out of the blood stream and into the bones and muscles etc. Calcium in the blood stream over time is not good.
