I think it’s a “contribution” towards the cost of disposing/recycling these products
The [law] requires companies that distribute or import new products into the French market to finance the end-of-life of their products. To meet this obligation, manufacturers and distributors subject to this regulation can join an eco-organization. In this case, they pay the organization an eco-contribution for each product sold. The eco-contribution is not a tax: it is not paid to the State. It is a contribution paid to eco-organizations by the participating distributor and/or manufacturer.
Short for Eco-Participation. It is showing you that part of the price of what you buy is a charge for proper disposal farther down the line.
Have Ryanair clocked on to this yet? ![]()
EPR’s been around for a long time now, I assume éco-p is just another name for it? Whenever I see mandatory contribution, it’s essentially the same as a tax, at least in my mind. ![]()
Interesting—thanks.
The chap in the shop just knocked it off, and charged us the standard price. We’ve bought a few things there, so maybe it was because of that.
I think its normally included in the price, rather than a supplement ![]()
No matter what price the Customer pays… the Eco-P will still have to be paid to the Association by the Seller.
Eco-P sounds like choosing the right spot carefully for a tinkle.
Which should be paid for by the manufacturer as the customer didn’t get a say in the choice of packaging.
And as with all other eco taxes, are we sure it will be spent as stated and not end up in an offshore bank or funding something we don’t want?
I don’t think it covers the cost of recycling packaging. It’s meant to fund the recycling of the product at its end of life.
In some of the older gents’ toilets the aluminium wall did echo rather a lot.
Who would then add that amount on to their price. No commercial business will voluntarily reduce their profits.
