and now we've gone on the very top state of alert that we've never been on before and my OH is on a training course in Toulouse for three days this week... :-O
The Sun is on one of the conspiracy theories - some young squadies were kicked out recently for photos of them brandishing nazi flags etc. Still all very sickening hearing the eye witness reports on the news this evening and my local news (Midi-Pyrénées) devoted the entire 30 minutes to it, we had to turn it off in the end as it was too unpalatable with young kids around.
Let's just hope they get him very very soon
Yes Celeste, war is a terrible thing that is so easy to launch when you're a politician but so difficult for everyone involved during and after, I never fought and would no longer be able to do so "for my country" (not sure which that would be either now!) but would still have no qualms about doing so for my family. Yes fundamentilism but with no ethics at all, there's just something so horrendously wrong with killing children. Yep, no conscience, just targets, I've calmed down now and yes I do still fundamentally trust in the good in people and society but at times I question it!
Liz, I'm further north in the Aveyron but just not used to much happening in the Midi-Pyrénées. I don't think being British has much impact on this more specific racist type killing. Having said we're along way from Toulouse, there were police and gendarme checkpoints up here in the Lot and the Aveyron on the way home from work earlier where we usually see no one.
I livre about 35 kms north of Toulouse so what happened this morning is very close to home. I have three children the older two go by bus to a school much closer to Toulouse and my youngest goes to the village school. The security this evening was very evident, children were not allowed out in the playground and were called to go to the gate when the parent arrived. At my older boys school Gendarme were present.
The media say that the same gun was used in all of the shootings, the gun person arrives on a white scooter wearing a black full face helmet, he or she shoots at random. Last week the Paratroopers who were shoot and killed were of North African or Caribbean origin.They had served in Afghanistan. And today it was Jewish people. There does seem to be some racist link here. Should I be concerned as a British person?
Yes Celeste, I didn't go into the religious identities of the people, if I remember correctly some of the soldiers were of muslim origin and so may be looked upon as traitors and yes it stinks of extreme activism/terrorism for religious (in the political corrupt form, not the pure form I fully agree) reasons. I left the Royal Navy before the balkans/serbia "problem but many friends did serve there and one paid the price mentally. As a father and a human being I'm simply sickened, like you, and although I can understand someone killing someone else to save their own life or someone elses, I can't understand such cold blooded executions, one could be explained, a second, that's difficult but what happened this morning is just beyond all comprehension. Let's hope he gets nailed soon, very soon.
