What would be the ONE , no more, that you would miss IF you left France. Let’s keep this simple so no comments about you would never leave France etc.
The absence of traffic noise. It might just be my super rural location, but I usually only hear the local wildlife and occasional agricultural until the air force puts in a brief, but noisy appearance.
The superb health system
Views that go on forever. We have two hectares of land, much of it just uncultivated grassland and trees, beyond that, arable farmland with the occasional distant farmhouse, beyond that woodland, and in the far distance hillsides and above all of it, huge skies.
Foe me, it was and still is space to be alone.
The French love of breaking rules.
And knowing where my wine and asparagus is grown.
Family
Holidays in Corsica with our dog without driving too far from home.
I prefer as Roger Waters sang, “if I were a rule I would bend”. I’m never quite sure about breaking rules, is it ok to break some or never? On the ferry there are always a few people who go down to their vehicles before the message is tannoyed. Is that an acceptable “breaking of the rules”.
The skies, yes!
Lack of hypocrisy. My language. OK that’s two things but they go together.
Cheese - it is bad enough when I’m only out of the country for a few months. I’d have to call the wild card on Italian cheeses though, as the small experience I’ve had so far of them definitely warrants in depth investigation!
France.
Forests.
My home.
Well, I have given this some thought and I can’t come up with anything. There are things I’m grateful for, in FR, but other places do those things as well, if not better. I might mention the health service but my experience of the Spanish ‘NHS’ is just as positive - and it’s free at the point of delivery, for pensioner residents.
Where I live is no more than somewhere congenial to be. I hope to improve on it if Plan A comes off.
I would say..
..the incredible beauty of where I am…
Easy one for me given I’ve already left - the wildlife.
Seeing deer, sanglier, snakes and lizards plus a huge number of different birds nearly everyday is something I’ll always miss.
Shiny, happy people. (Didn’t someone from Athens write that song?)
This may not be applicable for those of you who’ve already retired, but I’m still some way off that. I’d miss the French lifestyle. By that, I mean the not having to work ungodly hours each week because it’s expected by your employer. The lack of materialism and the freedom from not having to keep up with the Jones’s.
That, or maybe millefeuille.
