Explains a lot, perhaps if you did you might think differently.
This installation by sound artist Janet Cardiff is a wonderful version of the piece because each speaker is dedicated to a single chorister and you can walk around inside the circle,
Iāve been slowly moving to 50/50 uk France , because of french taxman - meat seemed very pricey in the UK to be honest
Not necessarily, I have 2 children, 5 grand children, 3 kids of Franās which are holding up that part of my life, 3 step children (who were never adopted so donāt feature but are great to be with or communicate with) and, although it is not deliberate, I am , it feels like, spending all their inheritance as fast as I can. Just like the Snowbirds (retired Americans from the north of the USA who migrate south in their giant Winnebagos for the winter
)
French inheritance tax has never entered my thoughts. It is not my tax.
ā¦I thinkā¦no, I knowā¦Iām very intolerant of people.
Iām horrid
No, I donāt think so. I come from a family who all share the belief that you make your own way in this world. And those who are no longer with us, left what was left of their wealth, which wasnāt a lot, to charity. And I will do the same.
My parents left us nothing , but several charities benefited from their demise. And we were all absolutely fine with this.
I donāt have to consider any children, but I do have ācharitiesā in terms of young people whom I admire and whom I believe will make a significant, positive difference with my money. They live in the UK. If I stay in France they will get less than half the money from my estate. The benefits to them will be more if my demise is in the UK.
Except that I believe the only place the installation is still publicly accessible is in Canada.
People are assets or adversaries, there is no in between.
Interesting direction for the conversation. I would always prefer people to grow, become better than they were, kinder happier people, each one bringing something of value unique to them. Iāve seen those who use others as tools and resources, and they are despicable.
Didnāt know that - I saw/heard it in Tate Liverpool about twenty years ago.
Ummmmā¦I was not being too serious but I find that as time goes on, Iām quite happy in my own company and find the constant presence of people in the house quite tiresome - other than my lover of courseā¦.and the cats, of course. ![]()
Does your wife know?
Folks either make your life better or make it worse.
Lifeās too short to have anyone from the latter category around you.
Everyone brings joy to my life. Some when they arrive, others when they leave.
Oh, Iām totally stealing that for latter use.
I think itās a variation on a Mark Twain quote but who knows these days.
Hahaha!ā¦she would chop my doodles off if she found out so ā¦shhhh
(For the sake of clarity, and to avoid any confusion, wife = lover)
I love it when people leaveā¦I can breathe again.
Well put. We all benefit from some great services here which will not survive without support in taxation.
