When post can’t be delivered

Hello, a very basic question! I own a French house but am not resident in France. I am buying an item for my house from a manufacturer in France. Pandemic circumstances mean that I can’t be there for the delivery. I do have a caretaker who can come by from time to time on arrangement to collect post. My question is how it works in France. Do couriers and postal delivery workers leave cards? Can you usually arrange delivery windows? I don’t yet know how it will be dispatched.

Why not get it sent to the caretaker ?

Who is it being delivered by ? That makes a difference.

How big is the item ? Can it be left in a letter box etc ?

We accept parcels for our clients all the time so I’d suggest that the OP asks her caretaker to help.

Thanks, both—I will see if I can change the delivery address, though it may not be possible after purchase.

Problem here is that if it’s an indépendant delivery van (not La Poste) the parcel often gets left at the front gate even if we are here sometimes. The poste will leave a note then will take it back undelivered if it won’t go in the letter box and will keep it for ten days at your branch.
