I was surprised to see the plant stall at today’s market had loads of herb pots for sale.
Now one of my jobs is to plant romarin, sauge, thym, cibolette and maybe one or two more in the garden (the basilic is sulking: I may bring him in for a month or two), but I’d have thought now was a bit late in the year?
They could be for people who want to keep them in a greenhouse/windowsill over winter (depending on where you live). But autumn planting is great in some other places.
If tempted check how they have been produced as if grown under glass and you throw them straight out into a garden the shock might be too much for them.
Do you know anyone with these in their garden, if so take some cuttings and plant them. Take about 10 of each you should get about 6 of each that will grow on.
Is your basil in a pot & in the shade? Mine are like trifids & I’m supplying one of the local restos with the excess. Mrs W is freezing some for winter. As for cibolette / chives you can sow now but maybe better to do so in feb/march. Great time to sow herbs.
It’s in a pot in the sun, but the temperature is around 15 most of the time. It’s annoying because when I propagate basil it’s really prolific ; this lot, bought in a pot, isn’t.
Basil loves full sunlight & heat, but, if in a small pot then the roots will become bound & to hot, add that to a small pot with soil nutrutant inadequacy & probably lack of watering they will suffer. Mine are in full sunlight but in very fertile soil.
