Where to recycle ink cartridges?

Just changed a cartridge in my printer and it shows a rubbish bin crossed out on it.
Does this mean another trip to the dechetterie? Or is there another way?

Most supermarkets have containers to collect empty cartridges for recycling - batteries and broken light bulbs too.

Get it refilled? Buy online much cheaper remanufactured cartridge and return the empty one for refilling?

I’ll check both out, thanks, but I use it so rarely that it’s not worth going to too much trouble. My first thought thought was straight in the rubbish bin, but thenI saw the cross.

We take ours to bureau de la vallee, a stationary shop that is nationwide, and they take them and give us €1 off new cartridge.

In the EU, printer cartridge manufacturers have a responsibility to accept empty cartridges. If it’s a genuine cartridge you go to the printer company website and they should offer a postage free method of sending the empty to them. If it’s a remanufactured or third party cartridge then the company that sold it to you should accept it. Some companies that refill the old cartridges will give you a discount on a new cartridge if you return old ones.

Again thanks for the info, but it is such a rare event for me that money saving really does not come into it so I will take the simplest course and try the dechetterie when I am that way again on Monday. :grinning:

Hello, the print shop around the corner where I bought my printer also accepts cartridges for recycling and I get a discount on the new ones. Good luck!

Hello Doreen and Welcome to Survive France!

Do I take it that you live in France?

Hello Angela,

I am in Strasbourg and have been here for about 3 months now. I am in an apartment building, and we routinely recycle, food scraps going into blue bins and all recycling loose going into yellow bins.

I I have two issues at hand at the moment, the first one being do I throw my styrofoam away? The second being I received a shipment of household goods and have about 25 huge boxes to recycle. I do not have a car and getting these items to the recycling center will present a challenge. I do intend to offer the boxes for free on Facebook once I have finished unpacking.

I plan to discuss recycling the boxes with the guardien in my apartment building. He has posted a note to not put trash loose at the bins, and included a photo of some boxes, so I am rather confused about the ability to put boxes in with recycles.

Your advice is gladly welcome, thank you!

Doreen

I have a feeling that @Helenochka is in Strasbourg, in which case she is far and away the best person to advise you. I think she is abroad at the moment but may still pick up this post since I tagged her!

Excellent, thanks so much!

Oh I’d love your moving boxes, but too far away! I’ve taken to stalking shelf fillers in the supermarket so I can grab decent boxes before they pulverise them.

When we lived in Paris there was a system to get bulky items picked up from your doorstep if you booked a collection (leave outside on specific day with the reference number and they will be taken). Maybe have a look for options for “Débarrassez-vous des déchets encombrants”?

(apologies if you are french speaker but some aren’t in first year)

Excellent idea, I already mentioned to my florist that I would go up to the recycling area which is very close, but of course too far to lug 30 big boxes, and he said no they don’t take them – but I will ask! Ever the optimist!

Or Leboncoin?

yes I did learn about LeBonCoin today! thanks

Sorry, just saw this!

Doreen, you could try the Objects Encombrants service. Basically, you make an appointment and they come and collect the stuff:

Oh very good, thank you!

If you ever fancy a coffee or something stronger, just shout.
