Who’s got snow?!

We have about 5cm of snow here on the Vendee (85) / Deux Sevres (79) border near Pouzauges. Immediately before the snow started we had freezing rain, so the roads are now covered in an ice sheet with the snow on top. Totally treacherous under foot. Car definitely staying in the garage for a goodly while.

Snowed very heavily here in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) during the night. Woke up to lots and lots of snow! The dog was confused by it when he went for his morning pee.

Will take some photos when it’s a bit lighter, but judging by the garden table I’d say there’s maybe between 15 - 20cm of snow that fell in just a few hours.

Edit: some pictures now it’s daylight and I’m properly awake

Don’t take this personally, but I would be really happy if the snow fell on you rather than me.

It’s just started snowing here in my part of Cumbria, but it doesn’t look like it can be that bothered really. It started as the guys installing our new septic tank arrived to begin the work, everything’s looking a bit festive with a light dusting of the white stuff.

No snow in Sheffield. Daytime temperature has been 0 to 3 degrees since we arrived on Thursday but with sun and clear blue skies. Clouds are now gathering!

Update from Vendee / Deaux Sevres border. We have around 12 to 15cm of snow this morning and temperatures well below freezing (-5C).
The baker next door made it into work so there is bread for those clients who can make the walk or who have some sort of 4 x 4. Otherwise it is like a ghost town.
Freezing rain is forecast for tonight. Oh what joy !!

Any photos Robert please?

Just seen a white van driving along our very snowy departmentale road outside our house (in Seine Maritime, Normandy, half an hour inland from Dieppe).

The driver was holding his phone with both hands, presumably filming his driving, and obviously with no hands on the wheel. An unorthodox driving technique for deep snow and icy road conditions

North Charente/Haute Vienne, no snow but frost. Down to -5 at night. Now just around freezing. Good temperature for snow!

Been used to this - previous lives…

Germany, NYC, Canada (down to -25), Scotland.

I took this from another site ‘cos I thought it was fun to read

It Snowed Last Night…

8:00AM - I made a snowman.
8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.
8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 - My feminist neighbour complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 - The transgender man..women…person asked why I didn’t just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
8:40 - The Met police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 - The feminist neighbour complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 - TV news crew from the BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied “Snowballs” and am now called a sexist.
9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.
Moral: There is no moral to this story - this is what we’ve become, all because of snowflakes

I made the mistake of reading that out loud to myself and then collapsing in loud raucous laughter.

There appears to be a gendarme at the gate demanding to be let in.

Cholet. I’m not there to enjoy it, though. I’m in Italy, Abruzzo, for a quick scouting trip. It’s been raining for 3 days. To get on the train today had to wade through 3 inches of water on the tracks,

So jealous!!!

Somewhere between taking Louis to work and leaving at lunchtime for work I had this :face_with_peeking_eye::thinking::rofl::cold_face::cold_face::snowflake::snowflake:

I am really surprised someone hasn’t vandalised those railway signs. Just by adding two vertical strokes in easily obtainable white paint on the two ”o” ’s on the blue signs they could be transformed into “Tagliacazza”. Or maybe I’m misremembering Italian.

More of toryroo’s Antipodean photography - but how does she manage it in the northern hemisphere? Must be a special Aussie filter…

Thanks for your post. I am crying with laughter. Just absolutely magic.

Blimey, Tory, I hope that’s not what it looks like. Either turned the car over or dropped the camera. Put us out of our worry !

Gentle flakes here now - Near Riberac

In the Auvergne, it is cold, cold, and more cold, kind of par for the course. A mere -10 in the mornings easing up to -7 during the day. Technically, it snowed two days ago, but nothing worth sniffing at. Allegedly, heavier snow is forecast for this afternoon, but currently just grey cloud alternating with sunshine. At least it is wintry, albeit not for very long, as temperatures are forecast to go back up again above zero on Friday.

Here in Vire 14500 two days ago.

At 9am -7C outdoors, 6C in my sitting room and 8C in the bedroom

School buses cancelled in La Manche .

Was -9C in the night two nights ago. So naturally the uninsulated water pipe to a sink in the bothy burst. Outdoor temp indoors on account of two big window panes missing  I keep forgetting to get replacements.

The hole was so small that the pressure resulted in a jet that, from floor level, hit the ceiling. The fine shower that came down made the cable, with choc blocks on the wires, steam!

Bright sun now. 12:00 Merc 07

The UK Met Office did actually warn of 'possible danger to life’ before that ‘severe weather’ happened
