Why has Netflix screwed up my tv?

Have never had any adverts on Netflix to be honest but mine comes from the US so maybe thats why. I also find any and all foreign films can be changed into english far easier than on Prime but I prefer Prime for the choice of stuff to watch. Currently working my way through the complete Battlestar Galactic remake which my OH loved and I did not first time around, but am enjoying it now.

Neither have I, until now, but what do you mean when you say

If you mean changing the spoken dialogue into English then that is fine by me, I prefer the original language, but if you mean getting English subtitles on Prime is more difficult that really would be a game changer.

On Netflix France, which is what I have for the time being, I can get English sub titles on all foreign language films apart from French. But that’s ok, French plus French subtitles are good for my language improvement and maintenance.

If I can’t get subs on Prime that would be a nono, I have had a look at it and found great difficulty in just finding out what they charged and, it seems to me groups of films cannot be seen unless on a specific subscription.

I have Prime for the delivery but don’t really watch films or TV shows on it (not sure why). However I just checked in my browser and setting the subtitles was straightforward enough. I just picked whatever was the first thing it suggested - a film called the Beekeeper in this instance. Bear in mind I’m just using my browser, and I don’t have a Smart TV to test it on… but I imagine if it works via 1 method then it should be the same for others.

I just clicked the icon in the top of the screen and could then choose to have the audio in either English or French, and the subtitles either deactivated or in English or French:

Does that mean you can have English subtitles for a French language film?
Although Netflix told me you can on their system I haven’t found it to be true so far. Fortunately I am happy to have French subtitles on French language films.

Dubbing, whatever languages are involved, I will never accept.

Lemme try and find a French film and give it a whirl… Hold the line please, caller.

jattam, as they say round here. :grinning:

Found one… it’s this Brice 3 - Film 2015 - AlloCiné

My Amazon search history is gonna be a mess after this :man_facepalming:

Here’s what options are available for this French film:

So, it looks like you’re right and there’s no English subtitles for French films - or at least not for this one. In fact, there’s no subtitles at all…!

Edit: just searched another to check that one wasn’t an anamoly… found a film starring Partrick Bruel and that’s not got any option for subtitles either!

Is that Netflix or Prime? I was talking about Netflix promising English subtitles to French films but not delivering them.

Ah, Prime. Just spotted the tab.

Oh, that’s Prime. I thought you were asking about Prime. Lemme try Netflix now. My bad, looking back at your post I can clearly see you said Netflix. Apologies about that.

I was averring, rather than asking.

Here we go… dunno what film this is but it’s in French (and on Netflix this time… sorry again about that!). This time, I can choose only French subtitles, no English ones, along with the French audio:

Although a film that’s in English originally has subtitles in English and translated into French.

Par for the cause, as I expected, but of no consequence for me. :grinning:
