Why I’m cautious about buying an electric car

A battery with a fan is unlikely to make it go quicker except for recharging :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It was the extra stowage space for my motoring knick-knacks I was really after :slightly_smiling_face:

Depends where the fan is

Full on turbo-nutter mode for setting lap times burns 60kWh in one lap.

That’s a smidge quicker off the line than my bike :scream:

I remember the Formula one debate back in the day. Another advantage was sand blasting the following competitors with dust and small pebbles.

Depends whether it’s mph or kph really. Ah, it’s kph so not that  mind-blowing. I mean, it’s quicker than the S3, or even an RS3 but it’s not ridiculous.

The McMurty does 0-60mph in 1.5secs and the standing 1/4in 7 secs.

Kinda in the thread - I just plunked down the samolians for an EV MG4 for my upcoming two-week scouting trip to France. Super deal (my prior “best deal” quote was for $130 higher). I also signed up for the Chargemap app on the advice of a French EV owner in the EV drivers FB group. Even more excited now for the trip. It looks like - cursory research in some of the towns I’ll be traveling in/through - the max cost per kWh charge is €.45, most often less. The max kWh here in Texas is $.45, so Vv happy about that.

I don’t know, I’d say that’s pretty quick for a mainstream production car.

Lidl is pretty cheap for charging at something between 30-40c kWh

I grew out of needing low 0-60 times decades ago. For me the 50-80 mph time is far more important. I use that performance far more while overtaking than I feel the need to launch away from the traffic lights as fast as possible.

What about the Péage grand prix? It’s like greyhounds out of the traps around here.

I am always amused when approaching the peage and some wizz kid comes steaming past us only then having to stop to pay his toll while we go through the 30kph rolling gate with our camping car.
Minutes later wizz kid comes flying past us, again.
More haste less speed.

I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t have a badge? Only €2 IF you use it. It works well in Italy and Spain too.

I can’t remember when I last used an autoroute. :slightly_smiling_face:

I thought Spain had abolished toll roads?
Certainly in our experience over the last couple or so years.

Yes and no -

The Spanish stopped charging tolls on the autopiste a couple of years ago as an initially temporary experiment and dismantled the toll bo oths. But as far as I understand, they hadn’t planned how they were going to recoup the lost revenue, so then announced they were going to reintroduce tolls (governments may have changed in the meantime). However we were pleasantly surprised when descending into Spain the other week after a year’s absence that we didn’t encounter any tolls, but it was probably because we stayed on the Med coast. Elsewhere there are tolls.

The following is the most recent info I could find:-

We’ve used it extensively in Italy and we drove to the Bilbao ferry last year and from that ferry back home the year before, plus a lot of driving in the south of Spain this year. But I can’t remember any tolls

You try doing the Var to Cherbourg without one :slightly_smiling_face:

No trouble. I drive all over France without needing to use them. I could send you my GPX track for passing east of Paris on D roads or the one from the Voges to SW France without touching an N road but I’m sure you prefer the ease of cruise control.
