Does anybody know where to buy a seasoned wood beam, approximately 3metres in length?
The mills in south 16 & north 24 only have green wood, which, I’ve been told, could cause problems in the future.
Merci d’avance pour votre aide.
Try local builders/artisans/demolition firms and anyone else who works in the building trades including carpenters as often house renovations remove old beams to replace with brand new. We used to buy all ours for customers from the local saw mill as they had to be new for the deçenelle but by asking around, there are a lot of people in the know. Don’t forget how heavy it will be for transporting purposes.

Try asking local roofing companies if they have any that they’ve taken from old roofs.
Kiln dried timber from a builders merchant, rather than a saw mill which will almost always be green unless they have laid up some timber specially and can re machine it.
Yes, we used to pre-order oak trunks that the saw mill kept in as seasoned timber (Bretagne has a lot of interior wooden beams of large girths as in my previous home) and then get them to cut to the sizes we needed. Pinault used to do kiln dried seasoned timber and also supplied us but they changed direction and went less into timber many years ago now.
There is the big reclamation yard near Confolens along the same road as the Hope Association charity shop. Might be worth a phone call?
Hello Lily - I’ve got some ancient oak beams that were taken out of the house during renovation 25 years ago. You are welcome to come and cut 3 metres off one of them. What width of beam do you need? I’m in south 24, near Le Bugue.
Thank you for your kind offer. I will chat to the artisan tomorrow and get back to you.
La Bugue is not too far
Lily
PS.Measurements are 300mmx280mmx3000mm.

Did you try LBC?
Yes Tory, just missed the size we needed and fairly close to us, hey ho.
