For those who run websites on WordPress, the latest version 6.9 is now out.
Well worth updating to for obvious security reasons.
I’ve just done my two websites and it all went smoothly, but do a backup first if in doubt.

Hooray! I have succeeded in creating the least interesting thread in forum history! ![]()
I’ve personally always shied away from Wordpress, precisely because of the endless security holes
Then again, I think the same about Joomla, Drupal or any other massive CMS environment for which there appears to be little security oversight (from what I gather, the issues seem to stem more from extensions, than the core, but still).
These tend to be in plugins rather than WP core, which is patched pretty often.
So judicious choice of plugins can mitigate that, along with using a security plugin such as Wordfence, which blocks brute force passwords attacks and many other hacks, and alerts you to out of date plugins or other security issues.
As you say there is no foolproof web building software. But I do trust WP more than proprietary setups such as Wix where you have no idea if they are bothering to fix any issues or not. Plus a WordPress site is portable while a proprietary one requires you to start from scratch if you decide to use a different service.
It’s also essential to log in to your WP admin fairly often and apply any updates that are available - that’s where many people fall down as they put a WP website up and then forget about it.
Dang, my boring thread has come to life! You’ve spoiled it now young Pudding! ![]()
I started a reply, but got bored half way through!
Not really.
Actually, your thread reminded me of fiddling around with WordPress a few years ago.
In the end, I went with a Wix type of setup called Brizy.
What you said in your later reply about taking WordPress anywhere should your current hosting company go under, does concern me a bit. Although I can download the code from Brizy and host my site elsewhere.
I started learning computer stuff, but 99.99% goes right over my head ![]()
Anyway, another comment to make sure your thread doesn’t become the least interesting one here.
