We’ve been doing some water-saving efforts the last couple of years… but, sadly, some have fallen by the wayside.
This article is a timely reminder for me… “must do better”

Stella, your not wrong we should all do better, but in my opinion the water companies need to get it right and invest in more storage.
Until we paid a humungus amount money to run a pipe 2 Kms from the nearest connection point to our Mas, we relied on water from our source (giving about 500 ltrs per week) and we harvest rainwater (still do) and have an underground cistern of about 30 M3.
Stressed???..oh yea especially a couple of years ago when it was really hot.
…and ever since we got connected to the mains, it has rained and rained and rained.
The water from the spring plus the harvested rainwater goes through an intriguing sequence of sand and fibre filters and finally through a UV thing but because we are in an area id schiste rock, the water always smelt a bit lime a rusty nail.
…life in the boonies…but if we want, we can completely go off grid come the day of the Revolution
…oh we use the water from the source and the cistern to irrigate green stuff and I’m trying loads of permaculture techniques to mitigate water use. Vehicles never washed because of the mud tracks
Bearing in mind that all the grass verges down the country roads have been dug up to install Fibre cable for the internet, it makes me wonder why there doesn’t seem to be any plan to dig up the motorway verges to lay a large bore water pipe so that water can be shifted nationally from where it is plentiful to where it is in short supply.
When the Russians arrive, don’t you mean?
Why would anyone wash a vehicle, the rain does it well enough.
…well, no not the Russians…it’s a reference to Wolfie Smith in Citizen Smith…(Must have been a TV show in the late 70’s??)
Yup, washing cars is a waste of everything living here. When it rains, it is caked in mud and in the Summer, cakes in dust.
To prevent the build up of dirt inside the wheel arches and along the sides of the underbody which can lead to premature rusting and expensive repairs.
Must confess OH has got into the habit of using the local Blue Elephant about once a month if necessary … after washing cars at home was outlawed around here.
As I understand it… Blue Elephant recycle the water and any pollutants coming off of the car are not allowed to contaminate the soil…
