Would you choose to end your days in France?

Worst case for our four was more severe at around 750K euros and more complicated as there are multiple properties to be sold.

The current political farce reminds me of a lesser known Daphne du Maurier novel called Rule Britannia published in 1972. I thought about it a fair bit during the Brexit years as well. In it Britain estranged from Europe forms a union with the USA. Things don’t go smoothly. Your post reminded me of it because it’s about a family and the family have a baby, Ben. There’s a lot of discontent about the political situation and a lot of passion and frustration expressed. One of the consequences of that was Bens first word, ‘F**k!
I haven’t read the book for 40 years or so, I must see if I have still got it somewhere.

When my renovation is finished or even close to being I am thinking of moving into a very small property that would not involve very much iht. Problem is best way to make the money from the sale work to also avoid iht . I’ve just pasted 70.

If only. She was thinking of somewhere a bit wetter

Try nearer Taunton then. They get some pretty impressive flooding around there.

Wells-next-the-Sea - North Norfolk ??

My second daughter couldn’t say ‘quack’ when she was coming up for two, and got a little knitted chick egg cosy at Easter, she used to wave it around her head beaming and saying fuck fuck fuck, much to the amusement of my Scottish grandmother, no doubt it reminded her of the Anglo-Saxon component of her English degree

I am wondering how long before we sea the next well in your posts.

The word is realist.

You will not find that wording in any Home Office publication. They do not use the vocabulary used by Farage and GB News. You have obviously been listening to the wrong people if you make the same mistakes as them.

I think you mean delusional. For most, the world you hark back to never existed outside of Enid Blyton’s books.

Please remind me, are you an immigrant?

Indeed I am .

You seem to have crossed an important line.

My daughter got married there at xmas 2015. We stayed in thehotel looking across to the cathederal where the reception was also held and the photos were taken in same place with the green and cathederal behind but with snowy xmas decorations everywhere too!

Really explain.

That is good and I am pleased that you and your family are intergrated and happy, if only that was the majority.

the 175000 illegal immigrants that arrived on the UK`s shore between 2020 and 2024 ( Home office official statistic.

The term in your post of the "current rise in populism " is interesting , to you think that more people share a common view, though not necessarily racist. Or is that because it is not a view you share you wish to denigrate them by calling them all racist.
A earlier post of yours would seem to suggest that society is becoming more aggressive and more vocal in voicing their displeasure of those from different culture background, society is evolving, what might it be like when Trump / Vance /Musk invite! us to become the 52 state.

Yes I agree it is becoming much more common to use racist language in public and as I have said in a reply to @JohnH, society is changing , evolving, not necessarily for the better, what once was frowned upon is now the norm. At the risk of making what some will deem as a racist remark, people did not in the UK routinely leave their abode carrying knives and machetes.
