Did you see anything? From what I can tell, it was a bit of a damp squib.
Think there is a lot of apathy at the moment regarding politics. Not many turned out here according to local paper this morning.
If I recall correctly… the manifestations were talked about/threatened before the Prime Minister was even named…
I think it was because certain people were cross that someone (forget who) was out of the running…
I don’t think that France in general has any great desire to manifest against Barnier… the majority of my pals (with whom we’ve spent a marvellous weekend) are in favour of Mr B…
The issue is that the Nupes candidate Lucie Castets should really have been proposed as they gained the similar % vote as Macron. So to propose a party that actually came 4th is quite an arrogant step as suggests M Macron is not interested in what ordinary people think.
The manifestations are against Macron, not Barnier
Really? He is a bed fellow of the National Front.
Perhaps that is exactly why @Stella 's friends like him. (Just exploring possibilities.)
Might have been easier for Macron to have appointed Castets and then let her fall at the first no confidence vote in the Assembly, which would have taken everything back to square one. By appointing Barnier there is at least a chance that a more long lasting government can be formed even if in name only.
Allegedly, a thousand or so in Clermont Ferrand (source).

Most governments in Western Europe, with the exception of France are compromises, but the French Left were unwilling to compromise in order to create a viable government, and so they’ve been left out (literally!)
I had realised that! Doesn’t change the fact that she should have been proposed.
She was proposed to Macron along with others, but he didn’t select her.
Most of the people present will demonstrate regardless of the reason. For them it’s a day out and great fun.
Talking of protests, I see the farmers are planning one for friday. Lets hope it dosn’t escalate and everyone with an axe to grind jumps on the bandwagon. I filled the car up yesterday and so did the family, you know what those refinery workers are like!
