Your Favourite Petrol (or Diesel) Stations Thread

When I was back in the U.K. in November, diesel was around 5p/6c cheaper at Tesco than my local Intermaché at the time.

Slightly cheaper yes - it varies, but for me the fill-up at Newhaven has been more about having a full tank in the motorbike on arrival and not having to hunt for an open petrol station, since I have usually caught the overnight boat which arrives in Dieppe at 5am!

Current average UK price for a litre of E10 is £1.39 (€1.68) and average French price is £1.50 (€1.81) according to the RAC.

I haven’t seen any petrol for sale at €1.80 anywhere recently except the odd roadside garage. I’ve been buying a lot of E10 recently and my last two top ups were at a price that started €1.6. Then there is diesel… It is even cheaper in France, is it still more expensive than petrol in the U.K.?

I don’t know where the RAC get their figures but that was the average price they quoted for the whole country - presumably it’s pricier in Paris like it is in London, and it definitely is on autoroutes and UK motorways.

Generally yes.

But cheaper still at Leclerc’s on the drop down to Dieppe.

There’s a lot of regional variation. E10 is currently 1.69€ (£1.39) in the south of 86.

For what it’s worth, all 3 garages in our little town near Dieppe are charging €1.80…

I’ve passed that several times in the last 10 days.

Yes I’m sure there is… hence why I quoted the average price.

Both supermarkets here are in the 16s today.

Not open at 5am when the ferry gets in, as I mentioned in my previous post.

Price today for E10 at that Leclerc is E1.71 according to Google.

Lovely LIDL in and out in 5 seconds!
@captainendeavour - going from strength to strength.

Any hints on where’s best on the continent to dumpster dive?

Germany. In most places they have a regular collection of furniture, and other bulky items (Sperrmüll abladen) on the pavement in front of the houses. It’s perfectly legal for people to take what they fancy before the collection happens.

Same thing here in most large towns and cities, they’re called les monstres or les encombrants.

We don’t all travel on overnight ferries

So £1.43 which is 10p dearer than locally near me.

No indeed, few are as mad as me in that respect, but it was queried why I fill up at Sainsbury’s Newhaven rather than in Dieppe, hence my explanation.

There is the Carrefour at the top of the hill which has 24/7 pumps

Good to know, thank you.

Its an easy entry from the side road but a small right hand exit off the main road just before the roundabout by Lidl if memory serves, I know in the pitch black I have missed it before.
