Dark?? Dark??
We gave up watching Cadfael because it was so Dark… and Damp… and both often at the same time…
Shame the Electric Light hadn’t been invented in Cadfael’s time… I’d have enjoyed the series far more if I could have seen it properly

I used to expect old Catweazle to pop up with touchwood his toad in that series.
One to look forward to - Bill Nighy AND James Norton in the same film - bliss!
We finished Slow Horses, thoroughly enjoyed it.
We then watched Ludwig. Wasn’t as good as I’d hoped… The story was weak, the acting was poor, the set looked like something from a sixth form theatre studies performance, and even the audio quality was weird and sounded staged with no background noise. It was like something I’d expect to see on Channel 5 not the BBC.
We’re now watching a show called Liaison… Some well known actors but the storyline is pretty bad.
Next up is Sweetpea.
The first episode enticed me to watch more. But then the next episode was near identical, so just skipped to final one to check that the end was close to what we anticipated. Shame as had potential.
Ein Mann namens Otto (2022) - IMDb (A man called Otto) Really enjoyed this Grumpy old man sees the light film. If you like this, Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” 2008 is also very good.
Thanks - I enjoyed Gran Torino so will look this up.
There was also a film starring Michael Caine that was like a British version of Gran Torino. Can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head… Harry Brown, maybe. Have you seen that?
For something different, try ‘Disclaimer’…
Just watched Alien Romulus this afternoon and enjoyed it very much. Lots of little references to previous films but this explains a lot more and is previous to Prometheus events.
What did you watch it on (apart from a TV )?
I have PLEX from the US.
Has anyone watched The Hardacres?
Not heard of that one. However, thought of you when starting “Territory” set in the NT, a series about baron cattle ranchers and all the bitching etc. One or two well known australian actors in it so far. Makes us europeans realise how big that country really is too! Its on Netflix by the way.
Not spotted that on Netflix, I’ll have a search next time I’m on it. I suspect it might be of more interest to me than @toryroo though, but maybe not. I didn’t actually meet any cattle barons when I was there, the nearest I came to one was the station owner and his wife who barbecued half a cow on a giant spit to feed all us drivers when we arrived to load up.
On another fire there was a 25 litre drum of tea bubbling away, ‘just dip in mate’
This is set on a ranch the size of Belgium and was originally under another title for Aus TV. I have just done the first episode and its not bad, a bit gory sometimes but thats life where you can’t just up and go to hospital.
As I say, I’ll have a look, but I don’t ‘do’ series, I always have the feeling (justified) that they decide how many episodes then boringly extend whatever they have to fill the space.
A glaring example of this is a recent one about the Menendez Brothers who killed their parents back in the late '80s or early '90s. I was about half an hour in before I saw the dreaded word ‘episode’ but I persisted through goodness knows how many of them. Shortly afterwards I saw another one about them, but this time it was a complete documentary with no actors. So I watched that too and felt that I had gleaned more of the truth than all the episodes of the first.
Really enjoyed Slow Horses, mainly for Gary Oldman’s character and the grief he causes.
Anyone watching Mr Loverman? Last night’s episode was very powerful.
‘Hijack’ definitely worth a watch
Is that the Idris Elba one? I watched it over a weekend, couldn’t stop myself. The Gerard Butler “Plane” film is good too.
