BD has a great cast which helps.
Just found out that Grace Dent is only replacing Gregg Wallace on Celebrity Masterchef, not Professionals or Amateurs, Thank God for that
I’ve just binged a few episodes on a round trip on the Eurostar today. I was almost reluctant to get off.
Conclave is worth a watch. Boring story, but a pot shot at the Vatican.
Very well filmed/produced and superb acting.
A million times better tha n Openheimer (mind you, anything is better than Oppenheimer
)
I suspect a good few nominations.
When programs are recommended on here I think it would be very helpful to the rest of us if the channel on which they can be found was also mentioned.
Just caught up with the first episode - looks very promising.
I do hope you’re right - where did you see this please?
I watched the The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert last night. Its an old film but made me chuckle out loud. Will never look at Terence Stamp in the same way again nor Guy Pearce.
Wonderful film, beautifully acted. ![]()
We have the DVD, and have put it in the gîte. It’s remarkable the number of times it is on the top of the pile when people leave
PQotD has been a great favourite for years in this house ![]()
Just watched ‘Harriet’ on Netflix. 2 hours long, a biopic about Harriet Tubman, an escaped slave who once safe in the north went back time and time again to bring others out on the Underground Railroad. She commanded black troops, (the Americans weren’t that emancipated 'till after the 2nd world war) in the civil war and lived to the approximate age of 91 when she died in 1913.
Highly recommended. ![]()
Just seen, for the first time, seemed to have missed it in previous years, Private Eye’s Review of the year 2024 on You Tube.
It was extremely funny but I am not trying to sell it to you, what I really want is information from someone else who has seen it. This is because I knew well 3 of the 4 characters involved, Ian Hislop, of course, Harry Enfield, who had to frequently get down from his high stool to reach for a sip of water(?) perched on a high table just out of his reach, and Jan Ravens.
All were brilliant but the most brilliant of the lot was the man sitting at the far end of the line who had his companions in stitches, never mind me.
SO WHO WAS THAT MAN? I have no idea and I kept missing his name. ![]()
Lewis MacLoud, scottish comedian and actor.
Thank you, very swift success, I have never heard of him, How can that possibly be, he was absolutely brilliant with a wide range of imitations from B.Johnson to Ian McKellen to Nigel Farage and, of course, the latest President from Trumpton. . Jan Ravens could not stop shaking with laughter either. Later I am going back to watch the ones from other years.
Not necessarily recommended, but this film is meant to express a high moral value – ‘concern for others’. The point of the film is obvious, but I found it so very irritating, so very silly and tiresome all the way through, despite the Hollywood big-name actors. Good Sam was concerned about the welfare of others, so much so that it seemed to me more like an illness!
If you want to experience a really awful film, watch this one. It ends as Christmas is approaching, so at least it’s seasonal!
We’ve just gone through all of these recommendations and have a list of films and series to watch. Thanks to all for your input.
Rachel and Stuart
I enjoyed this even though I have no interest in fishing. Filmed in what’s to be our new stomping ground - River Lot and Célé
Any fans of Detectorists?
We loved the series and very much enjoyed it’s creator telling us about it’s conception. Such a modest and talented man.
I didn’t see it but I do love the off the cuff comedy of the two of them and, especially, Ted.
But, I don’t see many of the programmes because, as an animal lover, I can’t bear to watch them being tortured. We are largely an omnivorous species so I have to accept that some animals die to feed me, but I totally disapprove of killing or giving pain or terror just for sport.
