Your film or TV series recomendations (2021 and on TV binge)

The original Alan Alda film MUCH better - as I’ve already said.

Oh, my mistake, just seen the word ‘remake’.

Unfortunately “remakes” come with pretty poor script, over the top acting, the need for constant outrage and screaming and every other word to be f**k (or worse).

Watching a short series on BBC, Families Like Ours. Future climate change affects Europe leading to mass migration.

A view of what happens to one Danish family. Makes the refugee story very relatable and very clear why refugees rely on mobile phones.

Post anything you like if you think it is watchable

Thanks, then I recommend Taking Chance, with Kevin Bacon.

Incredibly emotional.

I believe it’s only available on Region 1 DVD, so you’ll either need a multi-region player (unless you live in America), or you’ll need to find it online.

I’ve just finished binge watching Ted Lasso. I was a bit dubious at first as not the sort of thing I’d normally watch, but it was very compelling.
Now just started re-watching Star Trek Discovery

Discovery got better and better but was hard going some of the time.

I watched the first 2 or 3 seasons many years ago, but then it disappeared to another broadcaster. Always liked Star trek

I couldn’t really get into the 3rd series as it felt a bit samey so I didn’t persevere. However, I watched the very first Dalziel and Pascoe the other night and was quite amused to see a young Jeremy Swift playing a part.

I know what happened to Dalziel, but whatever happened to the bloke playing Pascoe? I don’t believe I’ve seen him in anything since. Of course, he could be doing a lot of stage work which would of course completely pass me by now.

IMDB is your friend.

Thank you, explains it perfectly, although a massive fan of David Jason I couldn’t stand ‘A Touch of Frost’. I think it was because he played it as a comedian rather than a straight actor. In similar fashion I had to stop watching the antics of Bradley Walsh because he was forever for me the excellent straight actor in Law and Order UK. Numerous actors, all good, drifted in and out of that programme without wrecking it, but when Bradley Walsh called time, it stopped. Says it all. :grinning:

I decided to disregard any media reviews and watch ‘Conclave’ on Prime

I’m really glad I did. Not only is it visually beautiful but there are some deliberately pensive performances by great actors

Makes recent events fee more human.

Enjoyable little film on YouTube. After watching it I looked it up and low & behold - a 2023 Guardian review.

You’ll have to watch the film to see how 6 cats gave the spaceship enough oomph to power off into space!

Netflix? Or Prime? Just asking cause we’ve got both.

Oops! Amazon Prime. Free for now.

How strange - my version of Prime is showing for rent / to buy

Just started the Fred and Rose West docu on Netflix. We did not know much about this at the time they found the first remains as we did not have UK TV here in France and it never really made much on french news until much later on so this reveals what really went on.
