The book is set in Denmark which might have worked better (again, only watched the first episode so far so my view might change).
It seems there are several Danish film adaptations of the books - e.g.

Dover 24/7 on channel 4 was interesting. I have never been through Dover port and what goes on is quite amazing. Music is the same as the Heathrow 24/7 series.
I didn’t watch it mainly because I know it so well, I remember so well all the delays there for lorry drivers including once having my dashboard completely dismantled in a search for drugs I assume. I had non of course not even an aspirin but what I did have was a CB radio, illegal in UK at the time. It was hanging on a string around my neck and disguised by the heavy woollen jacket that I wore for the purpose…in the middle of August.
Watched Gran Tourismo last night, based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, racing for Nissan after only playing on playstation simulator
Is it any good?
Yes very, for anyone who likes a bit of motor sport, starts a bit slow and heads in a direction that may not immediately appeal. Wife asked if I was “really watching this” later on the edge of her seat
Haha, thanks, I shall hunt it down.
I’ve just watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Reminds me that I was riding through Le Mans a couple of weeks ago thinking “that looks like catch fencing, what’s that all about?”.
I’m really not very clever sometimes.
Well, episode 2 left me wanting to watch episode 3 rather more than episode 1 made me want to watch episode 2 - so things seem to be on the up.
I’ve just watched the first episode (I haven’t watched so much TV in one night for a long time) and spent the whole time spotting the Scottish actor. I think they’ve bought the whole shop.
Been thoroughly enjoying Dept Q. Two more episodes to go. Reminds me of Slow Horses - bunch of social misfits thrown together, marginalised by the organisation they work for and seemingly bumbling through stuff, but coming up with the answers when everyone else fails. And has the delectable Matthew Goode in it being gloriously awful.
Likewise.
I agree with @Susannah that it gets more interesting, and the characters get slightly less abrasive (but only slightly) after the first episode so currently keen to see the resolution.
Very different vibe. For one thing some of the characters in SH are not complete a******es.
I have got my hands on the first four Danish films - will be interesting to see the parallels and differences between the two productions. For one thing the Danish productions are much shorter (the first film being just 96 minutes long compared with about eight and a quarter hours for the Netflix version based on the same book.
Interestingly I don’t think they are in Dept Q. Damaged, coping with “stuff” but I find them easy to care about, unlike some soaps over the years - Succession, watched 10 minutes and said never again. Shitt’s Creek the same. I need to care about whether the characters live or die and with Dept Q I do.
Just watched “Primal Fear” (Netflix) starring Richard Gere. One of the best endings to a film for a long time. Much better than the current formulaic endings where all the cast gathers for a “dramatic” denouement.
We ended up binging on the last 3 episodes on Sunday night. “Just one more”…
Rather dear
