Watched 2 episodes of 6 (no. 3 is tonight at 10 our time) on BBC 1 or 2 of Murder 24/7, a documentary of a targetted murder of a DPD driver. How they coped I do not know as all those involved, including the victim, have the same surname, Singh. At least 2 of the forenames are similar too, both something …deep. Confusing but interesting.
A highlight for me, and I hope he gets an award, was the lone police driver in an unmarked car who came across the getaway car and followed for quite sometime while knowing that armed help was many minutes away and that the carful he was following had used axes, golf clubs and thick pieces of wood in the crime.
“Walter presents” is a section of All 4 (Channel 4 online) which consists of Foreign TV series and films. Not had your problems and have been using it since it started many years ago.
“London Kills” (BBC iPlayer) is a watchable crime drama with 4 series (although series 3 seems to have mysteriously disappeared). It’s a bit like “Midsomer Murders” but based in London. Dramatic scenes are linked by shots of modern London eyesores accompanied by a dramatic but irritating twanging type of music. The real challenge however, is to count how many London buses you can spot in each episode.
Just finished “The Gold” series 2. Series 1 is still available. on BBC iPlayer. Very enjoyable and very well made. About the aftermath of the Brinks Mat robbery at Heathrow in 1983 £26 million of gold bars. The Gold (TV Series 2023–2025) - IMDb 7.4* on IMDB
Went to the cinema last night to watch F1 the Movie, and also to cool down
As an F1 fan, it’s cringeworthy in many places (red flagging a race due to gravel on the track, one person redesigning the aero of a car on a whim and going from last to first, a massive crash sending the car miles in the air whilst driving in the wet on slicks, etc…) but if you don’t follow the sport then it’s watchable.
Visually very good, and watching the cars on a huge screen was enjoyable. Music is pretty decent too (Hans Zimmer iirc). The plot is typical Hollywood, formulaic rubbish that’s been done many times before, and the dialogue is as cheesy as you’d expect. Brad Pitt is pretty good and carries the film imo.
Won’t watch it again but glad I saw it in the cinema rather than at home on TV.
Funnily enough, I watched it last night too. Agree totally, watchable nonsense. I saw Lewis was credited as a director, hope he doesn’t go into film making
The other day for our afternoon matinee film (the outside temperature was 35.6c) we watched The Thomas Crown Affair. We were going through some of the Steve McQueen films but in error I had grabbed the 1999 version with Pierce Brosnan/Rene Russo in error. But we continued watching it and it turned out to be a good film - it followed the same principle as the 1968 version and during the credits at the end it played Windmills of your Mind. It wasn’t Noel Harrison but Sting singing. It was good! Give the film a try - it’s a good one.
A bit late to this but I saw it in the IMAX in Glasgow and, despite my reservations, thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably more for the spectacle than the plot or any realistic reflection of F1 and there was a serious suspension of disbelief. It does explain why Brad Pitt was at so many GPs though.
