Watched ‘Lake George’ last night. Nothing spectacular but a pleasant film to watch - Shea Whigham stars. First saw him in Boardwalk Empire. Now that IS one of our favourites.
At least no spoiler alert then. I was shocked yesterday while watching something or other when they revealed the finale of Macbeth. ![]()
In reference to my brain scan the other day, can you believe that I could not for the life of me remember the name of that play just now. I knew it began with M but couldn’t get the rest until I asked Google about the Scottish Play. ![]()
Difficult to believe (at the time) how successful Hugh Laurie would become as House. Another side to him that perhaps we didn’t know. Playing St James Infirmary.
But then to offset that we have Stuart little ![]()
We watched ‘The Accountant 2’ last night. It’s not a patch on the 2016 film and it is NOT one we would recommend.
Watched I’'ll See you in my Dreams yesterday. Yet another film I have seen before and remembered only the scenes I am watching never the ending so enjoyed it just as much all over again.
On a more serious note, is this a warning of impending dementia? If it is it is perhaps the only advantage but advantage it is because it happens often.
Otherwise, and definitely for the first time, I watched ‘The Thursday Night Murder Club’ but there will not be a 2nd time for that. Really not impressed with the plot but, my goodness, didn’t everyone look old.
Sole exception of Pierce Brosnan who looked out of place too young for the part. ![]()
At least he didn’t sing.
Yet in Mobland, he looked really old and Mirren the other way round.
The film “Elephant” was quite interesting. Hardly anything happens, and I had to keep watching even though I had seen the synopsis. Quite chilling.
I just spent fifteen mins watching Civil War on Prime. Not going to continue because its scarily forecasting a future that could happen the way things are going stateside with a similar president and I don’t want that in my head with family there.
Two buffoons (only 1 of which is tasty) in an entertaining bit of mindless drivel that makes total sense of the current media scams - on Netflix: Special Correspondents
If you like docudramas & have a liking for things political then I can recommend The Hack on ITV/ITVX.
David Tennant & Toby Jones are, as ever, superb, as is Robert Carlyle. Steve Pemberton has a cameo part as Rupert Murdoch & is utterly believable.
If you aren’t a fan of having to remember minute detail & half references to new characters who may or may not become pivotal to the plot (but may never be seen on screen) then this isn’t for you. The conclusion is also very definitely NOT that of a Hollywood movie.
There, I hope I’ve sold that to someone ![]()
It’s interesting that you like it, thank you for posting. I had read online that ITV hoped it would have the same effect as their mini-series on the Post Office scandal but people don’t think it will. I’ll give it a try though, it’s a good cast.
They may have hoped that but the subject matter doesn’t have the same pull as Mr Bates Vs. the Post Office.
Although the behaviour of the tabloids (with the collusion of the police) is outrageous & effected many innocent people it doesn’t hit home as much as the aforementioned targets were mostly anything but your average person (unlike those wronged in Mr Bates…)
Much traction was gained when the tabloids hacked the 'phone of the missing teenager, Milly Dowler, but way too few heads have rolled, & the further Levison enquiry was cancelled by the previous Tory government ![]()
As I knew two of the B’stards involved, 1 of whom turned queens evidence. Neither works in the industry, 1 owned a pub near Dover the other is a wedding photographer. So I look forward to watching this.
It’s not new but I think the Great Hack is still on Netflix. It’s not exactly fast moving but it’s enlightening about Cambridge Analytica and elections, plus the Brexit referendum.
Gonna grab this as we watched the other 2 series…
Just watched a Hugh Grant video where he is talking about several injustices. Milly being one of those. Hugh was also hounded by the same two journalists so understandable dig.
This is a very long thread and you never know what has been mentioned before. Anyway, I’ve just watched The Clothes in the Wardrobe on BBC Screen Two. Very enjoyable with a very clever and amusing denouement. Joan Plowright and Jeanne Moreau in excellent form.
