Yes, made my giblets wobble I can tell you
That’s a hard nope. ![]()
Just watched both episodes of The War between the land and the sea on BBC. Loved it, just like Torchwood and of course, Dr.Who. Can’t wait until Sunday night for episode 3
Me too! I was struck in the 2nd episode by the ‘tit for tat’ in so forcibly dumping plastic back onto land from the sky. More obvious and apparent and with such impact compared to the slow and silent plastic pollution of the sea.
Just wondering now how Barclay is going to get 5000ft down in the Atlantic.
Just watched Chris Hoy on iPlayer, fabulous, sad but oh so inspiring, what a man.
I always enjoy ‘Uncle Buck’, a lovable film IMO. Critics didn’t like it so much. One said that there were unsavoury aspects to the character Uncle Buck. But it’s a family comedy and was a public hit.
“Offbeat comedy starring John Candy. A bungling bachelor faces the sudden and unexpected challenge of becoming a babysitter for his brother’s three kids.”
It’s showing on ITVX. Or buy/rent on YouTube.
The Netflix documentary about Candy is quite interesting too. Its one of our favourites along with Who Killed Harry Crumb in which he is a private detective.
Outrageous, about the Mitford ‘ girls’ was interesting.
I really enjoyed this. It requires considerable suspension of disbelief in the plot but is nevertheless interesting, well acted and exciting.
Lovers of sci-fi might like to watch Pluribus on AppleTV. One can subscribe for a month and binge watch if preferred. I’ll cancel when Pluribus ends unless I find something else I fancy. I very much enjoyed Slow Horses and Down Cemetery Road on this channel. Pluribus is highly original and entertaining in my opinion.
We’re halfway through watching Down Cemetery Road and enjoying it too.
I was never a fan of Emma Thompson before, as I always thought of her as part of that “once more, from the top, with feeling” type of luvvie actress that I dislike… But she’s great in this.
Have acquired this too, as it’s written by the guy who wrote Breaking Bad - one of my Top 3 TV shows ever.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it ![]()
I don’t know if this is available nationally but my wife recently joined our local Médiatheque for 10 Euros/annum. We now have access not only to an excellent library and media selection, but also to an online streaming platform.
This film critique website is rather handy too
I’ve just watched the latest episode. It gets better and better. Now I have to wait till next Friday for my next fix.
our local Médiatheque for 10 Euros/annum.
Heartily agree! Our médiathèque is great, as well as books etc it also loans board games and children’s toys. Very useful when small things come visiting. And have already signed up to our new one, which is even more luxe as has a stylish area under stone vaulted ceiling with comfy chairs, a vending machine and toilets. €12, so 2 more than Michael’s but the comfy chairs make that worth it.
We watched The woman in cabin 10 with Keira Knightly and Guy Pearce and enjoyed it. It’s a thriller set on a superyacht.
Watched last night another episode of the crash detectives. This excellent programme is fascinating to follow as dedicated officers attempt to unravel the evidence of fatal road accidents, but last night I was shocked at one point in the procedure.
A car had left the road before a slight bend veering off to the right without any evidence of braking and then entered a lay by used as a collection point of piles of gravel. As it reached the entrance there was at last brief evidence of braking and then the car somersaulted end over end, throwing the driver out of the car through the rear window before landing heavily on its roof.
The officer wanted to know if the driver had fallen asleep causing the road camber to take control of the steering wheel. In order to do this the investigator shocked me by approaching at 60 mph and then letting go of the wheel, moving his hands briefly away from it.
Happily the car carried straight on, indicating that the camber wasn’t the reason and 2 choices were left, and not determined, a swerve for a suddenly appearing animal or forever unexplained.
But it did occur to me that shortly afterwards some other expert might have been trying to work out why a police van had suddenly swerved into the path of an oncoming car from round the bend causing a double fatality head on collision
, and that he concluded ‘oh, no hands on the wheel, we all do it’. ![]()
Nevertheless, as always, very interesting. ![]()
Finished Down Cemetery Road last night. Enjoyable but not as much as Slow Horses.
Tonight we finished watching The Woman in Cabin 10.
Enjoyable enough. The sort of film you will only watch the once though. It’s on Netflix for those who have it.
