Your Life in Others' Lyrics

May I start a cheeky discussion which has nothing to do with France (or it may depending on your choices)?

My life always seems to be in song lyrics and here are a couple that seem relevant at the moment.

Rod Stewart, Atlantic Crossing: “It’s Not the Spotlight”

If I ever feel the light again shining down on me,
I don't have to tell you what a welcome it will be.
I felt the light before but I let it slip away,
but I still keep on believing that it'll come back some day.

and

Bruce Springsteen, "Better Days"

Well my soul checked out missing as I sat listening
To the hours and minutes tickin' away
Yeah just sittin' around waitin' for my life to begin
While it was all just slippin' away
I'm tired of waitin' for tomorrow to come
Or that train to come roarin' 'round the bend

Every fool's got a reason to feel sorry for himself
And turning his heart to stone
Tonight this fool's halfway to heaven and just a mile outta hell
And I feel like I'm comin' home

Now I'm not bothered if you like my choices or not, but am just interested in what are yours.

"when she was giving head".....I always smiled at this because the BBC never got it! They censored "Relax" and "Love For Sale" but this sneaked under the net!

Wicked Kate! I love it! Well done.

My poor husband, but I gotta say Meredith Brooks' "Bitch"

I hate the world today
You're so good to me
I know but I can't change
Tried to tell you
But you look at me like maybe
I'm an angel underneath
Innocent and sweet
Yesterday I cried
Must have been relieved to see
The softer side
I can understand how you'd be so confused
I don't envy you
I'm a little bit of everything
All rolled into one

[Chorus:]
I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a child, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I'm your hell, I'm your dream
I'm nothing in between
You know you wouldn't want it any other way

So take me as I am
This may mean
You'll have to be a stronger man
Rest assured that
When I start to make you nervous
And I'm going to extremes
Tomorrow I will change
And today won't mean a thing

[Chorus]

Just when you think, you got me figured out
The season's already changing
I think it's cool, you do what you do
And don't try to save me

[Chorus]

I'm a bitch, I'm a tease
I'm a goddess on my knees
When you hurt, when you suffer
I'm your angel undercover
I've been numb, I'm revived
Can't say I'm not alive
You know I wouldn't want it any other way

Here's mine:

"Starlight"

Far away
This ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing the starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

But I'll never let you go
If you promised not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

Far away
This ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

And I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
I just wanted to hold

One way by the Levellers. My all time favourite. Turn it up LOUD and jump around alot! Here are the lyrics:

There's only one way of life
And that's your own your own your own

My father when I was younger
Took me up on to the hill
That looks down on the city smog
And above the factory spill
He said now this is where I come
When I wanted to be free
but he never was in his lifetime
But these words stuck with me. Hey

And so I ran from all of this
And I climbed that highest hill
I looked down on to my life
Above the factory spill
I looked down onto my life
As the family disgrace
Then all my friends on the starting line
Their wages off to chase
Yes and all my friends and all their jobs
All the bloody waste

There's only one way of life
And that's your own your own your own

Well well when I grew up,
learned to love and laugh
Circled A's on the underpass
The noise we thought would never stop
Died a death when the punks grew up
And we choked on all our dreams
We whispered all our fears
Running through the heartless concrete streets
Chasing our ideas Run
And all the problems of the world
Won't be solved by this guitar
And they won't stop coming either
By the life I've had so far
And the bright lights of my home town
Won't be getting any dimmer
Though their calling has receded
Like some old distant singer
And they don't look so appealing
To the eyes of this poor sinner

There's only one way of life
And that's your own your own your own

Alison & Susan - I like both of them

After reading the thread on banksters mine would be Tracy Chapman's Talkin' Bout a Revolution.

My life at the moment (and enjoying it now after a few years of awfulness!):

'Freedom's just another word for 'nothing left to lose','

(Janis Joplin)

At least it's not Ambrosia (as in Creamed Rice, think about it)

Bruce... what do you expect? The same lot who took nigh on 40 years to see what Jimmy Savile was up to, is it a surprise?

Funny how the BBC banned “Love For Sale”, “Relax” etc., but didn’t understand the “giving head” bit, in Lou Reed’s song?

Thanks, Brian from Ambigonia, I suppose.

Lou Reed, Walk on the Wild Side

(as a prose poem)

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A. Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A. Plucked her eyebrows on the way Shaved her legs and then he was a she She says, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side" He said, "Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side"
Candy came from out on the island In the backroom she was everybody's darlin' But she never lost her head Even when she was giving head She says, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side" He said, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls go Doo do doo, doo do doo, doo do doo
Little Joe never once gave it away Everybody had to pay and pay A hustle here and a hustle there New York City's the place where they said "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side" I said, "Hey Joe, take a walk on the wild side"
Sugar plum fairy came and hit the streets Lookin' for soul food and a place to eat Went to the Apollo, you should've seen 'em go go go They said, "Hey sugar, take a walk on the wild side" I said, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side" Alright, huh
Jackie is just speeding away Thought she was James Dean for a day Then I guess she had to crash Valium would have helped that bash She said, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side" I said, "Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls say Doo do doo, doo do doo, doo do doo

I'm not transvestite, junkie or any other images he sings but I have always lived ambiguously, if that makes sense, but of preference I walk on the wild side...

Wish Gainsbourg reflected mine in “Je t’aime moi non plus”! (but not with Jane Birkin!)

To bring it to a French theme:

"When your socks smell of angels,

And your life smells of Brie,

Don't Marry Her, Have me"

Beautiful South love their straight faced sarcasm: "Don't Marry Her"
