A little mid-week humour to lighten the mood

When I was six I fell on my bike on a cinder path.
Although my knee was cleaned I still had small bits of the path in my knee.
I am 76 this month and there is just still one tiny bit visible.

I’ve noticed here that, even if it’s not funny, people tend to ignore it and this is one of the very few threads which stay on topic. Another is the Wordle one!

As someone else said, it’s easy to mute threads. I don’t always enjoy the jokes, but I like the thread.

I’m afraid he may get the job
very funny but extraordinary how people can still be fooled by a soap box rabble rouser snake oil salesman but it’s happened before
plus ça change, plus c’est la mĂȘme chose
I’m all in favour of political jokes

It’s interesting. I hadn’t viewed that as a political joke at all, so much a a comment on circumstances. Thanks for helping make things plain.

Yes, there’s a chance he’ll get the job, and although it may seem strange, I quite understand why people voted for him.

This is possibly the silliest official astronomical project ever - why should aliens be able to ‘read’ a line drawing? And even if they could would they necessarily correctly interpret the raised arm, open palm ‘peace’ gesture.

I find it difficult to believe that any graphic designers or cultural historians contributed to the construction of this ridiculous image.

It’s something a schoolboy/girl/person might have come up with after a couple of second’s thought.

Yes you’re right, I don’t think it’s very good!

Apropos an attempt at meaningful interspecies communication, ‘dumb’ seems a wholly inadequate description

Ergo the reason for the joke, I thought it was funny and apt.

Seriously - one of the defining characteristics of Homo Sapiens is the need to communicate so, unwise or not, that’s what we attempted.

Any race that could capture a voyager probe is probably advanced enough to have a think about what the message means.

Besides Voyager 1 is currently travelling at a mere 61,500 km/h - I think the estimate is 40,000 years for it to reach the nearest star - honestly? I’m not worried aboout aliens finding it and launching an attack.

We were in a cafe the other day, and there were 2 waitresses arguing about the right length of time to leave a teabag in a cup. Eventually they got so angry that they had a fight.

I asked the manager about it, and he said this wasn’t a surprise because it had been brewing for a long time.
