Hello, thanks for this and other comments.
It seems to be quite difficult to close an account since I still appear to be here…
Maybe it will be closed before I finish this…
This morning a young friend of mine returned a book on zen which I had lent her some time ago. It’s about wabi sabi, call it a zen aesthetic if you like, which in a zen way might be incorrect though correct.
I built a Japanese Teahouse 25 years ago for a Rich List Australian client. He supplied me with a Japanese carpenter (who had worked on finish carpentry in the Imperial palace) and an artist from Japan, whose book on Japanese Legend had formed the screenplay for an awardwinning film at Cannes. His name is Tokumi Ayzen.
We worked together to build the teahouse. The carpenter Shoji didn’t speak any English so I picked up some very rudimentary Japanese.
I met Toksan in London. He felt it was necessary to take me around the V and A Japanese and Korean sections. I was honoured to receive a basic course in Japanese Art from a working artist, which ranged across all disciplines. This teaching continued elsewhere. I had to almost wrench my mind to make myself open to it.
So in response to the quotation about paths which lead nowhere. These are the most important paths. In the Teahouse culture, stones making the path to the Teahouse are spaced to slow down or break a hurried or direct gait to the entrance. The entrance is at the side. It is constrained. The samurai warriors would have to leave their swords hung on a rack outside, and then go inside to drink tea.
I dedicate this little note to my teacher Tokumi Ayzen, who loved The Green Man.
I appreciate all that you say @Yann, but I can’t for the life of me wonder why anyone who no longer wants to take part thinks that it is necessary to request an account deletion. SF isn’t a bank, you don’t have to leave, simply stop coming here and at least you have the opportunity of a change of mind later.
I hope you do. ![]()
…I thought I was just slipping out the door…but I turned a corner…and there it was just like before

A wonderful approach.
Slip out the back, Jack,
Make a new plan, Stan,
You don’t need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free…
(Or not - no need to leave SF!) ![]()
Today’s ear worm!
I love worms so much I wish I was a bird, and could eat them. ![]()
There will be a song about that ! ![]()
I hope you’re not leaving on account of my willy waving comment. Just ignore me. I was feeling grumpy. If I had a willy I’d be waving it too.
You should ask your husband first if he minds. ![]()
Hey, that’s a bit patriarchal at the least…?
edit - I sense some smiley is needed here ![]()
Or as in Kenny Everett"s version..
“Nail her head to the bed Fred,
Kick her in the teeth Keith”
I can’t remember any other of his lines.
A brave and welcome admission. ![]()
I was assuming it would be his.
